Ceremony to honor Joel Plummer planned

Montgomery County, TN – State Senator Tim Barnes has announced that Montgomery County officials will hold an unveiling ceremony for the Joel Plummer Memorial highway on Friday, November 4th, commemorating the life of a public servant who made Montgomery County his home and his life.
Plummer was born in Montromery County where he lived his entire life. After serving in the U.S Navy during the Korean War, he returned home and was appointed deputy sheriff at the age of 22. Joel Plummer was eventually elected Sheriff of Montgomery County, was Montgomery County Trustee, Montgomery County Executive (now County Mayor) and was Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Safety from 1975-1979. Clarksville Transit System Offers 23rd annual “Operation Safe Ride”

Clarksville, TN – For the 23rd straight year, the Clarksville Transit System will offer free bus rides on New Year’s Eve, into the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. Operation Safe Ride is a five-hour service offering free rides home from any public or private location within the Clarksville city limits. The number to call to get a free ride home is 931-553-2429.
“Our single purpose with this program is to help prevent drunk driving in our region,” said Clarksville Transit Director Jimmy Smith. “We continue to offer Operation Safe Ride to the Clarksville community as a way to give back and help keep our citizens and roadways safe during a key evening that can be particularly hazardous for many.” [Read more]
Tennessee Highway Patrol remembers fallen troopers and officers

In observance of National Police Week, the Tennessee Highway Patrol today honored State Troopers and other law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty at its annual Memorial Service at the Tennessee Department of Safety Headquarters on Foster Avenue in Nashville.
TDOS Commissioner Dave Mitchell welcomed Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn as the event’s keynote speaker, while Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Mike Walker, members of THP’s Command Staff, current and former State Troopers, and family members of fallen officers were also on hand for the ceremony.
