The 2012 Riverfest Festival to be held on September 7th and 8th

RiverFest 2012Clarksville, TN – Join the City of Clarksville, Budweiser, and Agero along the banks of the Cumberland River as they celebrate Clarksville’s river heritage at the 25th annual Riverfest Celebration, September 7th and 8th, 2012. This FREE, two day music and arts festival features four stages of a variety of local, regional and nationally-known entertainers, delicious food, and fun for the entire family.

The music kicks off Friday night at 5:00pm with a great lineup of Christian performers on the Mary’s the Music Store Stage to include MIKESCHAIR who will perform at 9:00pm. Eliminator and Little Queen will take to the Bud Light Stage on Friday night, followed by the ultimate Journey tribute band, Chain Reaction.

Renowned soprano Burrows to perform at APSU on October 30th

Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council, in cooperation with the Clarksville Community Concert Association and Austin Peay State University Department of Music, will present renowned soprano and Clarksville native Melissa Shippen Burrows in concert at 7:00pm, October 30th, in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Concert Hall.

Described by The New York Times as “a dramatic soprano with an attractive, powerful sound,” as “angelic” by The Washington Post and, according to Theater Scene, “appealing and lyrical,” Burrows has made debuts in her young career throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

Organizations Invited to Apply for ABC Grants to Fund Arts Activities

Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council invites organizations seeking funding for artistic and cultural projects that benefit the community to apply for an Arts Build Communities (ABC) grant.

Arts Build Communities (ABC) is a program funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered by the Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC). ABC grants offer financial support for arts projects in all disciplines such as dance, music, opera/musical theater, theater, visual arts, design arts, crafts, photography, media arts, literature, interdisciplinary, and folk arts.

Poetry Out Loud State Championship Comes to APSU

Clarksville, TN – Christopher Burawa, an award-winning poet and director of the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, has a theory on how poems should be received. Works printed on a page are nice, but the true experience of poetry comes from hearing someone speak the words.

APSU Artist Shipley Displays Work at Nashville Airport

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Every day, hundreds of people from across the country arrive at the Nashville International Airport, and, shortly after getting off the plane, among the first things they see in Tennessee are the innovative and highly-stylized ceramic sculptures by artist Ken Shipley.

That’s because Shipley, an Austin Peay State University associate professor of art, is among only a handful of artists from across the state to have his work exhibited at the airport as part of the “Flying Solo Series: Winter 2011.” The exhibit is part of Arts at the Airport, which is funded by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and the Tennessee Arts Commission. Guidelines and Applications For Fiscal Year 2011 Ongoing Grants Available Online

Nashville, TN — The Tennessee Arts Commission has announced availability of grants in the ongoing grant categories. Grant categories include Touring Arts, Professional Development Support, Technical Assistance, Special Opportunities, Arts Education Mini-Grants, and Arts Education Teacher Incentive. Applications and guidelines are now available online (www.arts.state.tn.us). The grants will be available for Fiscal Year 2011, which begins July 1st, 2010 and ends on June 30th, 2011. Tennessee Arts Commission issues grants to local organizations

Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council, City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation and Roxy Productions, Inc. awarded matching grants.

NASHVILLE – Senator Tim Barnes has released the list of grant award recipients from the Tennessee Arts Commission for Fiscal Year 2010 (July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010) in the 22nd district, which includes Cheatham, Houston and Montgomery Counties.

  • The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council received  $7,400.
  • City of Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation received $4,600.
  • Roxy Productions, Inc. received $25,000
  • The Houston County Arts Council received $6,650

“The arts are important; they improve education when integrated into curriculum, contribute to our economy, and make our communities exciting,” stated Sen. Barnes. “The organizations that will benefit from these grants this year will be able to continue to provide Montgomery County with invaluable services that enhance our daily lives.” [Read more]
