APSU’s Maddox-Vinson recognized as early childhood education advocate

Clarksville, TN – Lisa Maddox-Vinson has earned a reputation over the years as a dedicated advocate for educating young children. She currently works as a coordinator with the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) at Austin Peay State University, and she is on the executive board for the Tennessee Association for the Education of Young Children (TAEYC).

Last month, her reputation caught up with her while she was attending the TAEYC State Conference in Chattanooga. At the meeting, Maddox-Vinson was named the association’s 2014 Outstanding Member. She received the most nominations in the history of this award. [Read more]

Victor Felts, director of Student Life and Engagement, recently was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society at APSU. He also served as the keynote speaker for the induction held November 1st on campus. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University’s Dr. Linda Sitton retires after 14 years of leading Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance

Clarksville, TN – On a rainy Friday afternoon last week, a steady collection of umbrellas appeared outside one of the ballrooms of the Austin Peay State University Morgan University Center. Inside, a few soaking wet individuals gathered around tables of food, and one woman entered the room to announce that small, penny-sized pieces of hail were at that moment pelting the sidewalks.

The bad weather, however, didn’t stop the friends and colleagues of Dr. Linda Sitton from trekking across campus to attend a reception commemorating her retirement from APSU after 14 years as director of the school’s Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance.

APSU’s TECTA Site Helping Put Needed Professionals in Child Care Centers

Clarksville, TN – In order to work as a professor at a college or university, a person typically needs to have some type of doctoral degree. If that same individual wanted to teach in a public school, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree would be required, though a master’s degree is often preferred.

But, if a position were to open up in a child care center, catering to infants and toddlers, the applicant would only need to be 18 years old and possess a high school diploma. APSU TECTA presents $5,000 grant to library for early childhood

To ensure that early childhood educators have professional resources available, the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) at Austin Peay State University has awarded $5,000 to the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library to purchase additional materials for the early childhood community.

TECTA presented the grant to the library July 20th.
