APSU School of Nursing and county health department receive grant for breast health

Clarksville, TN – Five years ago, Dr. Patty Orr, Austin Peay State University professor of nursing, and Joey Smith, director of the Montgomery County Health Department, made an unsettling discovery.
After looking into incidents of breast cancer in this area, they discovered that the mortality rate was disproportionately higher among women from traditionally under served populations.
Mobile Mammography Coach coming to Hilltop Supermarket Saturday, March 4th

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, March 4th, 2017, the Saint Thomas Health Our Mission in Motion Mobile Mammography Coach will be at Hilltop Supermarket’s parking lot from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
The coach provides mammography for women who cannot afford the time away from work for appropriate screenings. It also helps women with no insurance through support from organizations like Susan G. Komen.

Clarksville, TN – Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery, with support from the Nashville and Clarksville Chive Chapters, recently held a fundraiser resulting in a $3,000 donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The “Nashville Chive Unofficial Meetup, Part Duex”, presented by Budweiser of Clarksville, was held at Tilted Kilt on September 27th and included a silent auction, limited edition tshirt sales, drink and menu specials and more with proceeds going to Susan G. Komen.

Clarksville TN – The Nashville Chive Chapter will “Party for a Purpose” as they hold another unofficial meetup at Clarksville’s Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery this Saturday September 27th from 5:00pm to close. The theme of the party is “Save Second Base” to benefit Susan G. Komen.
The event is presented by Budweiser of Clarksville, and additional sponsors are Love Blood Ink Tattoo, Sapphire Vapor, The Joe Padula Show, and Clarksville Online.

Austin Peay State University School of Nursing receives $60,000 grant with Montgomery County Health Department for Breast Health

Clarksville, TN – Thanks to a $60,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure-Greater Nashville Affiliate, the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing will partner with the Montgomery County Health Department to begin a breast health program.
The effort will launch June 12th with a forum that will serve as a call to action for men and women to know the latest about breast cancer, specifically how to minimize their chances of developing the cancer and how to detect signs early.

Clarksville, TN – The Saint Thomas Health Our Mission in Motion Mobile Mammography Coach was at the Hilltop Supermarket’s parking lot Saturday, March 23rd.
“Bringing in the Mobile Mammography Coach is just another way for us to help our local community,” said Hilltop Supermarket manager Mike Jackson. “A lot of women do not have the time to take off from work to have this done. This bus makes it quicker and easier for them.”
