APSU music professor to complete Brazilian residency

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Stanley Yates, Austin Peay State University professor of music and coordinator of guitar studies, has been invited to complete a 10-day residency at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul at Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Recently named that country’s highest-ranking postgraduate institute by the Brazilian Ministry of Education, UFRGA has been awarded funding to provide residencies for international scholars. Yates’ visit will take place March 11th-23rd.
Austin Peay State University to host annual GuitarFest February 17th-19th

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present the annual APSU GuitarFest this February, featuring guest artist concerts, lectures and master classes.
The concerts takes place at 7.30pm, Monday though Wednesday, February 17th-19th, in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall and are free and open to the public.
Austin Peay State University’s popular Halloween concert returns for 29th year on October 29th

Clarksville, TN – At 6:00pm and 8:00pm on October 29th, the Austin Peay State University Department of Music will host a light-hearted, family-friendly concert about death.
“But we’re going to try and make death as fun as we can possibly make it,” David Steinquest, APSU professor of music, said.
This might sound a bit odd to those unfamiliar with the annual APSU Halloween Percussion Concert, but fans of the event know the theme will fit in nicely with the strange blend of music and mayhem that has come to define the wildly popular community event for the last 29 years.

APSU Guitar Professor Stanley Yates To Perform Free Concert
Clarksville TN – Internationally-renowned concert guitarist and APSU Professor of Music Dr. Stanley Yates will present a recital of solo and chamber music at 7.30pm on Thursday, September 27th in the Concert Theater of the Music-Mass Communication Building on the APSU campus.
His program will include solo guitar music by baroque composer Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello, Czech composer Stepan Rak, and Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell de Aquino.
The concert will also include the first modern performance of a recently-discovered early nineteenth-century adaption for violin, viola and guitar of Mozart’s popular opera ‘The Magic Flute,’ assisted by APSU violin professor Dr. Emily Hanna Crane and Nashville violist Michael O’Gieblyn.
Austin Peay State University Symphony to perform Classical Masterworks during free March 18th Concert

Clarksville, TN – One afternoon in the late 1880s, according to a popular legend, the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky met with the man he considered a “mediocre composer” – Johannes Brahms. The topic of their conversation quickly turned to music.
“I can only write something that is beautiful,” Tchaikovsky is rumored to have pompously said.

Clarksville, TN – One of the youngest and most talented virtuoso guitarists in the world, Ana Vidovic, will appear in concert Monday, February 28th at 7:30pm at the Concert Hall in the Music/Mass Communication Building of Austin Peay State University.
She started playing at age 5 and was performing internationally at age 11. Ana has won an impressive number of prizes and international competitions. Critics laud her captivating performances for the unmatched phrasing ability, pure artistry, technique and understanding the soul of the music.
Annual GuitarFest Brings International Players to APSU

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will once again hold its annual GuitarFest, February 28th-March 3rd, bringing an exciting line-up of international guitar virtuosi to the campus. The performance line-up this year includes Croatian guitarist Ana Vidovic, Chilean guitarist Carlos Perez and the Douglas James-Pasquale Rucco guitar duo.
Vidovic, already a widely travelled international performer, recording artist and recipient of multiple international awards, will perform a program of classics by Bach, Tarrega, Albeniz, Lauro, Barrios and Castelnuovo-Tedseco at 7.30pm on Monday, February 28th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. Rockin’ Holiday Concert Comes to APSU December 3rd

Clarksville, TN – A holiday show titled “Silent Night” might conjure up images of a dignified and serious performance, but a new concert by that name coming to Austin Peay State University next month promises to be a more casual, pop-infused holiday experience.
“Silent Night – An Evening of Holiday Music,” which begins at 7:30pm on December 3rd in the Music/Mass Communication Concert Hall, will showcase a band featuring Allison Campbell and David Alford on vocals, Paul Carrol Binkley on guitar, Tony Nagy on bass, Matt DeVore on drums and David Steinquest, APSU professor of music, on percussion.
