Brown Foundation endows nursing scholarship at Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State University - APSUSpringfield, TN – For several decades, the late Stokes Brown worked to improve the health of his community in Robertson County. He was instrumental in bringing the first hospital to the area, and later as a member of the hospital board, he supported a special fund that paid medical bills for the impoverished.

Earlier this month, the Robertson County community again benefited from his generous legacy when the Brown Family Foundation endowed a six-figure nursing scholarship at Austin Peay State University.

McGahey has worked in both consumer and business banking in the Nashville area since 1989. He spent eight years at what is now Bank of America, followed by 13 years at what is now Regions Bank. Brewer is now working at the Springfield campus, which houses both APSU and Volunteer State Community College programs, to help students interested in completing a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, a Bachelor of Professional Studies, a Master of Arts in Teaching or a Master of Arts in Education with a reading specialist licensure.

The APSU Foundation provides the structure through which the University can work directly with special volunteers and community leaders to enhance the financial well being of the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to financially support the University.

The Foundation is a separate entity and is chartered by the state, with the authority to receive private gifts in support of the University. Through its executive committee, the Foundation makes its own policy decisions. The University provides administrative support to the Foundation. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University, Volunteer State partner to offer Teacher Licensure Program

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and Volunteer State Community College have partnered to provide teacher licensure programs at Highland Crest College Campus in Springfield Tennessee beginning in January 2012.

Students will complete the first two years of coursework through Volunteer State and earn the Associate of Science in Teaching (A.S.T.). Upon completion of the A.S.T. degree, students will complete the next two years and earn a bachelor’s degree and teaching license through APSU. All courses will be offered at the Highland Crest Campus. [Read more]
