Austin Peay State University sent hops to near space, now it’s in the Stratobeer at Strawberry Alley Ale Works

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On a sunny but chilly January afternoon, Austin Peay State University (APSU) physics students sent a high-altitude balloon 93,000 feet into the stratosphere.

The balloon carried an important student experiment, but the payload also included two special guests: two containers that contained Cascade hops.

APSU student Dominic Critchlow sends high altitude balloon into the stars

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Give Austin Peay State University student Dominic Critchlow a balloon and a camera and he can quite literally show you the world.

A senior in APSU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and a 2015-16 Presidential Research Scholar, Critchlow has spent quite a bit of time researching a simple solution for the complex problem of computer assisted image remote sensing through high altitude balloons.

A View From Space at the Customs House Museum

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – From now through January 8th 2012, the Customs House Museum has a great exhibit called “A View from Space”. Since the launch of the world’s first artificial satellite Sputnik in 1957, satellites have dramatically changed the way we study our planet.

A View from Space, a new, bilingual (Spanish and English), highly interactive, hands-on science exhibit, will allow visitors to see the world from a satellite’s perspective. They can track a hurricane from space, send a satellite spinning into orbit around a model Earth, study incredible images of our planet captured by NASA’s Earth Observing System, and more.
