APSU student Sara Alexander receives exchange scholarship to German university

Clarksville, TN – Sara Alexander, an Austin Peay State University (APSU) graduate student recently received an award to attend one of the oldest and most highly ranked universities in Europe this summer.
Alexander, who is finishing up a master’s in history and a master’s in teaching, will attend Germany’s Heidelberg University in August.
28 Austin Peay State University students selected for Who’s Who Among Students

Clarksville, TN – Twenty-eight Austin Peay State University students were recently selected for inclusion in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for the 2016-2017 academic year.
These 28 individuals will be officially recognized at the Student Organization and Leader Awards on April 19th, at Austin Peay.
APSU students join area historians in exploring Fort Defiance

Clarksville, TN – Located on a bluff some 200 feet above the meeting point of the Red River and the Cumberland River, Fort Defiance served a significant role in Clarksville’s participation in the Civil War.
Viewed by Confederates as an ideal site to defend the river approach to Clarksville, the fort eventually was captured by Union forces, who occupied the site for the remainder of the war.
Austin Peay State University’s Phi Alpha Theta students perform well at regional history conference

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Stephen Carls, professor and chair of the department of history at Union University, and Peeps go way back.
Besides just enjoying the spongy yellow candies, Carls can appreciate a bit of shared history as both Peeps and Union’s Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) history honor society chapter, which he has served as advisor for since 1983, were founded the same year: 1953.
APSU students present at Phi Alpha Theta national conference

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) history honors society has long been among the best in the country, recently winning Best Chapter of the Year Division IV for the seventh consecutive year.
Two members of the University’s chapter were chosen to join members of 77 other PAT chapters in presenting their historical research at the society’s biennial national conference, held January 6th-10th in Orlando, FL at the Walt Disney World resort.
