April 16, 2010
The 8th Annual Rivers and Spires kicked off today with the unveiling the refurbished Doughboy statue honoring World War vets. The Statue was rededicated in a ceremony in front of the Clarksville Transit Station on Legion Street where the statue will remain on display.
The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle led the drive to raise the funds needed to renovate the badly damaged statue. Current publisher Andrew Oppmann welcomed the crowd to the ceremony, then after the posting of the colors and the playing of the national anthem, former publisher Gene Washer took over at the podium.
Washer said “I made the initial inquiries about restoring the statue, and that was the quickest way to be given the job.” to which the crowd laughed.

Comedy on the Cumberland to benefit project F.U.E.L.
March 8, 2010
On Tuesday April 13, at 7:00 p.m. the Roxy Regional Theatre will host some of Nashville’s funniest comedians who will perform as part of “Comedy on the Cumberland,” a benefit for Project F.U.E.L. The show is the brainchild of Hank Bonecutter, host of WJZM’s The Bone Show, and a local comedian.
Comedy on the Cumberland will bring awareness to and raise money for a program that feeds hungry children in the Clarksville/Montgomery County school system. “Over twelve hundred school children leave school on Friday, and don’t have a solid meal again until they return to school on Monday”, said Bonecutter, “This is embarrassing and unacceptable”.
Project F.U.E.L is the life’s mission of one woman, Denise Skidmore, who was led to this effort by her Christian faith. “I was searching for a purpose in my life, wondering what would be my footprint if I were to die today” said Skidmore. “I want to feed every child I can. I won’t stop until they are all taken care of”. [Read more]

This show is based around music and songs of Johnny and June Carter Cash and features 33 individual numbers mixing the voices of the cast in a harmonious blend. The first act’s music was positive and celebrated southern life, while the second half takes a somewhat darker tone most likely due to the admitted drug use by Cash. [Read more]
