Austin Peay State University student promotes music education in Washington, D.C.

Clarksville, TN – In July, Austin Peay State University music education student Davey Edmaiston boarded an airplane for the first time. If he was nervous, the Troy, Tennessee, native probably calmed himself by thinking about the importance of his trip. In a few hours, he’d land in Washington, D.C., to ask members of the U.S. Congress to make music education a priority for American school children.
“I’d never been anywhere out of the state before. First plane ride and everything. My mom was pretty scared,” Edmaiston said. “But we got to meet with senators and House representatives and talk about the Every Child Achieves Act, which identifies music as a core-curricular so every student has access to music.”
Two honored during APSU Candlelight Ball Award Luncheon

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s 31st Annual Candlelight Ball is just around the corner, and to help announce the event, two individuals were honored and recognized during a luncheon held Tuesday, January 13th.
The Wendell H. Gilbert Award and the Spirit of Austin Peay Award were presented to two individuals for the outstanding achievement, contribution or recognition they have brought to Austin Peay.
APSU biology student Eva Grebe presents research in Washington, D.C.

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this spring, a bidding war erupted on the Austin Peay State University campus. Specifically, several different departments were fighting over the honor to pay for biology student Eva Grebe to attend the annual Council on Undergraduate Research’s Posters on the Hill Convention in Washington, D.C.
Only 60 out of 800 applicants nationwide are accepted to attend the convention. Grebe was the only Tennessee college student to be invited.
Two Austin Peay State University Alumni to be inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Hall of Fame

Clarksville, TN – Two Austin Peay State University alumni, one of whom is a congressman, will be inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 191 Academic Hall of Fame.
In addition, the chapter will initiate 116 students and six faculty as new members during the ceremony at 6:30pm, Wednesday, April 10th in Clement Auditorium. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University ‘True Colors’ Homecoming 2012 is October 24th-27th

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will celebrate Homecoming 2012 with the theme, “True Colors.”
Homecoming is October 24th-27th. Here is a list of events planned as part of the week long celebration. Many of the events are open to the public.
Some of the events include a Student Talent Show, Golf Tournament, Alumni Receptions, 5K Run, Homecoming Parade, Homecoming Football game and so much more.
Congressman Phil Roe guest speaker at Austin Peay State University

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Political Science and the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society announce that Congressman Phil Roe will speak April 13th in the Morgan University Center Iris Room.
His discussion will begin at noon and focus on issues concerning higher education as well as social issues such as housing, poverty, employment and the economy. [Read more]
