Clarksville, TN – The Historic Downtown Clarksville Association (DCA), is proud to announce the First Thursday ArtWalk for February, 2012.

This months artwalk will be held on February 2nd, 5:00pm until 8:00pm, and as always will be held in the shops and galleries on Franklin Street, Strawberry Alley, Main Street and Second Street. Spread the Word, ‘V’ Monologues Return to Roxy for Tenth Year!

Clarksville, TN – Eve Ensler’s touching, often hilarious series of monologues about women and performed by women has played to packed houses around the country, and the Roxy Regional Theatre’s production of “The Vagina Monologues”, opening January 6th at 8:00pm, is no exception.

Heather Anderson, Ashley Laverty and Adriane Wiley-Hatfield are joined by Jill Eichhorn, professor of women’s studies at Austin Peay State University; Paige King, proprietor of home boutique Hodgepodge; and Melissa Schaffner, marketing director of Fort Campbell’s MWR program; in readings of these monologues. Downtown Business Feature: Ingredients, for the gourmet in you

Clarksville, TN – As a manager of a downtown business, I get asked all the time about my shop, and other downtown shops and why we choose to be part of a downtown community. Why did we decide to be here versus a strip mall, independent building or in the mall. Well, I know what the owner of ARTifacts, Paige King, would say. But I can’t say for sure what the reasoning for the other business owners in downtown would say.

So I decided it was time to ask! I thought it would be a good idea to ask all the members of the Downtown Clarksville Association (DCA) all the questions we get asked daily and share them with you here. Starting with Ingredients – and continuing with all the businesses who decide to participate in this segment of feature articles. Comedy on the Cumberland provides post-flood assistance to local branch of the American Red Cross

The Second Comedy on the Cumberland benefit has come and gone. The charity event held on Tuesday evening brought five very funny comedian to Clarksville; raising over $4,000 to help the local chapter of the American Red Cross start on their own road to recovery after the Great Flood of 2010.

Interim CEO Randy Weddle related how they were affected by the flooding. “The flood of 2010 affected your Red Cross just as it did so many citizens of the county and surrounding areas. We had about three feet of water that came through our building, but you would never know it by the way that our strong hearted volunteers responded to the needs of our citizen”. The Red Cross spent a lot of money and expended a lot of their resources, helping local residents during the May 2010 flooding.

First Thursday Art Walk

You’re invited to join the merchants of Historic Downtown Clarksville for The monthly Art Walk, on April 1st from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Kendall Welsh from ARTifacts sent us this information about April’s artistic extravaganza.

Four diverse young artists will bringing their work to the Austin Peay Downtown Gallery in April for a month-long group exhibit. The show, which will feature APSU art alumni Janelle Costello, Caroline Tuzeneu, Sam Matthews and William Arnett Gentry, opens with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on April 1, and it will run through May 1.

The show will feature startlingly original work, such as Costello’s diorama-like photography collages that depict surreal scenes of imagined narratives.

“The intent of this body of work is to invite the viewer to temporarily escape the mundane by accentuating the beauty of make-believe,” she said. [Read more]

Downtown Art Walk on Thursday July 2nd

You’re invited to join the merchants of Historic Downtown Clarksville for The monthly Art Walk, on July 2nd from 5 – 8 p.m. Paige King from Hodgepodge sent us this information about July’s artistic extravaganza.

Visions Metaphysical Boutique will host Deborah Raleigh-Chandler, oils–impressionistic, still life; Afton Chandler, acrylics–modern, impressionistic; Amanda Harrison, acrylics–modern, impressionistic (some new pieces); Linda Cain, handcrafted sterling silver & gemstone jewelry (some new pieces).

The Roxy Regional Theatre–Clarksville’s Center for Arts and Education, will host the work of Beverly Parker Riggins in the Peg Harvill Gallery. The subject matter includes architecture from historic downtown Clarksville. They are large digital prints from manipulated polaroid transfer images. For the performing arts, enjoy Disney’s Mulan, Jr. playing at 6pm and tickets for the hit musical RENT will be on sale in the lobby. [Read more]
