APSU Students conduct research on different GPS devices accuracy for field purposes

December 4, 2012

Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Late last year, a group of Austin Peay State University geosciences students hiked through the woods in rural North Carolina, conducting field research.

They were looking for unusual rock outcroppings, and after each discovery, the students painstakingly scribbled down the longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates of the rocks into their notebooks.

That is, except for APSU student Maurice Testa. He simply pulled out his smart phone and quickly went to work.

APSU student currently running across America

July 30, 2012

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A couple of years ago, Austin Peay State University student and former cross country team standout Tracee Gruskiewicz fell out of love with running. She didn’t want to lace up her shoes anymore and push herself to do three-, four- or five-mile runs through the streets of Clarksville.

That attitude seems so foreign to her now. Particularly earlier this month, when she ran through the Mojave Desert at night to stay cool. Or the day she jogged into Texas, the humid air thick like a sweater against her skin. Not running was never an option. Instead, she dipped a shirt in ice water, draped it around her head, and tried to get her average 35 miles of running in for the day.

APSU Student Tracee Gruskiewicz stopped at Clarksville's Freedom Deli to rest before continuing her run across America.

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Visions & Feelings, a new exhibit by Tennessee artist Linda Kerlin embodies a sense of the fanciful. Delicate women collaged into a mixed media frenzy of color and script leads the viewer feeling like they have stumbled into someone’s diary.

These works are inspired by Kerlin’s environment and her love of antiques, decorating, and landscaping. Each painting displayed in the museum’s Harvill Gallery certainly is telling stories within the canvas and paper. [Read more]
