Love Is In the Air

Clarksville, TN – Love is in the air and the Roxy Regional Theatre is no exception. Currently playing in Downtown Clarksville is the musical comedy revue, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. This very funny and very poignant musical touches on all aspects of love and relationships and every audience member is sure to see themselves on stage at least once.
I asked the ensemble cast of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change if they remembered the first time they were in love and to tell us about it.

Montgomery County announces Volunteer Stars Award Recipients

Montgomery County, TN – Congratulations go to H. Lynn Hunter and Trinity Beard for being selected the Montgomery County recipients for the 2011 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards.
Hunter and Beard will be recognized, along with other recipients from across the state, at a reception in Nashville on February 27th and both will be honored tonight during the February County commission meeting with proclamations from County Mayor Carolyn Bowers.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency set to host Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit in Montgomery County

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will host the Third Annual Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit (TOYS), June 10th-15th, 2012 for high school students from across Tennessee. The students will be introduced to many outdoor activities at the event to be held at the Montgomery County Shooting Complex near Clarksville.
Among the different outdoor activities that the students will have an opportunity to become introduced to will include boating, hunting, trapping, archery, photography, marksmanship, plant identification, forestry, camping, water quality, trap shooting, skeet shooting, wildlife identification, and several classes with wildlife and fishery biology as the topic. The summit is designed to deepen the students’ appreciation for outdoor-related activities. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, February 15th at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Bridgestone Metalpha USA Awarded $19,035
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis have awarded $19,035 to Bridgestone Metalpha USA in Clarksville.
“If Tennessee is going to become the number one location in the Southeast for high-quality jobs, then we must offer a well-trained workforce to employers,” said Governor Haslam. “This kind of training grant not only helps educate workers, but also provides incentive to employers looking to relocate or expand in Tennessee.” [Read more]
Austin Peay State University to host regional Tennessee History Day Competition on February 22nd

Clarksville, TN – On February 22nd, about 300 of the top middle and high school history students in the area will converge on Austin Peay State University for a Tennessee History Day Competition. The local campus was recently selected as the host site for the newly-formed North Middle Tennessee district of the highly-regarded national competition.
Students from surrounding counties will visit APSU that Wednesday to participate in a wide range of categories, including performance, websites, posters, papers and documentary film, all centered around this year’s theme of Revolution, Reaction and Reform. The winners in each category will go on to the state competition in Nashville in April. Students who place in that event will go on to the National History Day Competition in College Park, MD. Austin Peay State University faculty, staff named for various accomplishments

Clarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members as well as some students at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic affairs, was interviewed for a story in the December 11th, 2011, issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education about how educational data mining to customize student experiences and selections. His expertise in developing software that recommends courses based on a student’s major, academic record and other factors also was noted in the article. [Read more]
New art exhibit at Austin Peay State University examines bioethical dilemmas of modern medical technology

Clarksville, TN – In recent years, Nashville artist Adrienne Outlaw has experienced a growing sense of unease with the rapid advances being made in medical technology. Her apprehension is reflected in works such as her “Fecund Series,” which requires viewers to gaze into breast-like funnels to see eerily quiet videos, such as a sonogram of a fetus’ beating heart.
“For the first time in history, there is knowledge available to mothers which forces them to make life or death decisions whether to carry a disfigured, malformed or unintentional fetus to term, whether to use pharmaceuticals with their associated risks and whether to risk passing on genetic diseases,” Outlaw said. “In these situations, we are no longer able to rely on long-established religious, societal or medical expertise for guidance, and too often, we only grapple with such problems at the time of crisis.” [Read more]
Communication Tower Negotiations Compete

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government has finalized negotiations with AT&T for construction of a replacement tower on Highway Drive. The tower will house the National Weather Service (NWS) equipment, along with all county emergency backup communication equipment.
The tower will be constructed at 280 feet tall, with the upper 80 feet housing the county equipment and the NWS equipment. AT&T will be able to lease space to other occupants if they choose, but the space above 200 feet will be reserved for county and National Weather Service use only. [Read more]

Zoning vote opens the way to project that brings jobs, attracts employers
Clarksville, TN – Winn Marine Vice President and General Manager Chad Swallows expressed his profound gratitude Monday night after the Montgomery County Commission granted Winn’s request to expand port operations on the Cumberland River.
