Nashville Predators Foundation awards funding to LEAP

LEAP OrganizationNashville, TN – On May 7th, 2014 the LEAP Organization was selected to receive a grant award from the Nashville Predators Foundation. This year marked the Predators biggest grant program in franchise history with over $410,000 in grants were awarded to Middle Tennessee non profit organizations at Bridgestone Arena.

“We are very appreciative of the Predators Foundation selecting us for funding to enhance our youth development program” commented board member Larson Gafney.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 396 holds annual Memorial Day Candle Light Vigil

Clarksville, TN – It is a solemn occasion when a nation gathers together to honor its soldiers, those who lived to come home, but even more importantly those who did not. The body of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Lawrence Woods was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on March 21st of this year. There are 27 remaining missing POW/MIA’s from the State of Tennessee. Each one was honored in a ceremony held in front of the William O. Beach Civic Center at Veterans Plaza in Clarksville Tennessee on Sunday evening.

he Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 396 holds this Memorial Day Vigil each year to remember the men and women who were left behind in Vietnam when American forces left that country in 1975.

Clarksville’s Customs House Museum announces Juried Exhibition Winners

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – This month the Customs House unveiled Figuratively Speaking, its National Juried Exhibition. This is the first time the biennial show has taken on a theme.

An equal opportunity disease, various forms of cancer affect both the young and old, people of all ethnicities, on all socio-economic levels.

These realities make the dollars donated and volunteer hours devoted to the American Cancer Society—a part of Clarksville for many years—critically important. Local volunteers are a huge part of a nationwide effort to save lives from cancer, but additional people are needed for the progress to continue.

APSU’s Christopher Burawa invited to serve on Tennessee Art Commission panel

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Christopher Burawa, director of the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, was recently invited to serve on the Tennessee Arts Commission’s 2014 Citizen Advisory Panel in Nashville, TN.

The panelists, who are nominated, meet once a year to offer advice on program planning and to review grant applications. In addition, they serve as year-round resources to the Tennessee Arts Commission staff as advocates for the arts in their communities.

Tiffany Bryant Joins Legal Aid Society as Victim Advocate in Clarksville

Tiffany BryantNashville, TN – Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Tennessee’s largest non-profit law firm, announced today that Tiffany Bryant has joined the team as a victim advocate for the Clarksville office.

Bryant previously served as a family advocate for the Child Advocacy Center of the 23rd Judicial District and has experience working with The Salvation Army: Joy D. Baker Center and the YWCA: Phyllis Wheatley Center. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. [Read more]

APSU professor Karen Crow to represent Mid-South in National Vocal Competition

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Karen Crow, Austin Peay State University adjunct professor of voice, has been chosen to represent the Mid-South Region in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Award (NATSAA) competition at the association’s upcoming National Conference in Boston this July.

The competition is held biennially in conjunction with the association’s National Conference.
