APSU promises scholarships to all of state’s high-achieving community college grads

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Beginning this fall, Austin Peay State University will guarantee scholarships to all Tennessee Board of Regents community college and Hopkinsville Community College graduates who have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Titled the APSU Promise, the new scholarship program aims to bring more high-caliber students to campus in the coming years.

Student Job Fair in Clarksville a Huge Success

Tennessee State Representative - District 67Clarksville, TN – The Student Job Fair hosted by Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts was a huge success. Over 400 students attended the Job Fair, Thursday, May 2nd and were successful in applying for summer jobs as well as discussing their future education plans with four institutions of higher learning.

“Great thanks to all the employers that attended as well as APSU, Nashville State Community College (Clarksville Campus), Tennessee Technology Center (Clarksville Campus) and Daymar Institute,” said State Representative Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville). “This event would not have been successful without the hard work of Melinda Williams and Wayne Simpson of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.”

National Science Foundation-funded program at APSU awards 16 scholarships for students to study STEM disciplines

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A new National Science Foundation-funded program at Austin Peay State University recently awarded 16 scholarships to community college transfer students, active duty military personnel, veterans and dependents interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in the science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) disciplines for the 2012-13 academic year.

The project, titled “Increasing the Number of Regional Community College Graduates and Active Duty Military Personnel, Veterans and Dependents Enrolling in and Completing a STEM Baccalaureate Degree,” awarded scholarships to nine APSU students and one Volunteer State Community College student thanks to the more than $500,000 the NSF is providing APSU over the next five years. APSU receives National Science Foundation grant to award scholarships for military and community college students in STEM disciplines

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Three Austin Peay State University professors are on the lookout for community college students, active duty military personnel, veterans and dependents interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in the science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) disciplines.

That’s because the National Science Foundation is awarding them more than $500,000 over the next five years to offer scholarships for qualified students in those areas.

Nashville State Community College Names Clarksville Resident Steve Conklin as Director

Nashville State Community CollegeNashville, TN – Eileen Crane, Executive Assistant to Dr. George Van Allen, President of Nashville State Community College, announced today the selection of Steve Conklin as Director of the new Nashville State campus which will begin classes this fall in the former Saturn dealership at 1760 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.

More than a year ago, APSU launched Degree Compass, a course recommendation system to help students stay on track toward graduation by. It was dubbed “the Netflix effect” because it provides students with personalized recommendations based on their academic transcript, similar to the way Netflix makes movie suggestions to customers.
