This Week at APSU: Latinx Heritage Month Kick-off coming Wednesday

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) will kick off a monthlong celebration of Latinx Heritage Month with free food and music on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Morgan University Plaza (MUC).
The event will be hosted by the Latin Community Resource Center (LCRC), which has events planned through mid-October.

Clarksville, TN – From Thursday, November 21st-Sunday, November. 24th, 2019, the Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) will present “Five Savory Dishes” – a world premiere evening of one-act plays written Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley.

That’s because it’s Austin Peay State University’s Fall Break, October 14th-15th. Neither the Clarksville Campus nor Fort Campbell Center will have classes those two days.

APSU to celebrate Women in Athletics April 5th-6th with focus on Title IX

Clarksville, TN – It’s time to laud all current and former female athletes at Austin Peay State University.
The second Women in Athletics celebration, scheduled for April 5th-6th, will spotlight the 40th anniversary of Title IX, monumental federal legislation first enacted in 1972 that requires gender equity in sports and other key educational programs receiving federal funding.
The law states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” [Read more]

APSU Sports: APSU Hall of Fame
Clarksville, TN – Jay Bailey, an All-American running back who owns the school single-season rushing record; Ashley Haynes, the versatile forward who scored 1,000 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds in her illustrious career, and Cheryl Holt, who led Austin Peay volleyball to 19 straight Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearances, including the 1991 tourney title, will be inducted into the University’s Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday.
The 9:00am, induction ceremonies in the Dunn Center’s front lobby will see the APSU Athletic Hall of Fame grow to 107. The newest inductees and their families also will be honored during halftime ceremonies of APSU men’s basketball home contest against UT Martin.
APSU’s Hardin Publishes Two New Editions of Popular Education Books

Clarksville, TN – One of the most important skills an education student needs to learn before taking a job as a new teacher is how to manage a classroom properly. Without this ability, all of his or her training and good intentions will slip away in the face of unruly or uninterested students.
But as public school classrooms became more diverse in the early 1990s, a single strategy for managing students no longer seemed practical. Dr. Carlette Hardin, dean of the Austin Peay State University College of Education, decided to collect some of the best management models being practiced in classrooms across the country, and in 2004, she published her findings in a new textbook titled “Effective Classroom Management: Models and Strategies for Today’s Classrooms.” [Read more]
