TCAT becomes Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified

Montgomery County, TN – Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), a post secondary technical training school, is the latest organization to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified.
Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett and Chamber of Commerce Director Melinda Shepard attended their green ribbon cutting to congratulate TCAT on earning their certification.

Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards nominations now being excepted

Clarksville, TN – The coveted Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards in the arts will be presented March 6th, 2016, but nominations already are being sought.
The Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, is a patron society of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The awards have been presented since 1996.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations. Nominations will be accepted now through Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 [Read more]
Clarksville Academy Choir and Cougar Choir sang Christmas Carols at Downtown for the Holidays

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County held their annual Downtown for the Holidays on Saturday, December 5th, 2015. The event started at 4:00pm.
The festivities included local school groups Christmas caroling on the Montgomery County Court House steps. There was hot chocolate available inside the Montgomery County Courts Complex.

APSU’s Woodward Library receives donation of table built from remains of Port Royal covered bridge

Clarksville, TN – For nearly a century, the Port Royal covered bridge stood as more than just a literal bridge that allowed passage over the Cumberland River’s Red River stream. Until its destruction in 1998, it served as a bridge between generations of Montgomery County residents.
Over the decades, the Burr Truss bridge overlooked children at play, private weddings and countless family gatherings.
On display at Austin Peay State University’s Woodward Library is a table made from salvaged material from the old Port Royal covered bridge. The table was created by Larry Ellis and Kenny Bishop, two APSU alums, in 1971. Clarksville, TN – Every human being has worth and deserves dignity. “Everyone matters” is an incredibly powerful humanitarian ideal, and one upon which the United States seems to continually both build and define. We hear the whispers of this ideal within the words of the Declaration of Independence.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
The generation of Americans which fought to free us from the tyranny of Europe in the late 18th Century probably could not have grasped how these words, and the spirit of the ideal they reflect would be used by subsequent generations to form the nation we live within today.
