Celebrating Christmas in the Downtown Commons

Montgomery County, TN – This Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 there will be multiple activities taking place in the Downtown Commons and throughout downtown to celebrate the Christmas Season. SpiritFest begins at the Downtown Commons at 2:00pm, kicking off with Northeast High School Show Choir, Starlight Grande performance, Infinity Dance Fitness Academy, Clarksville Academy, and Rossview Singing Hawks.
At 3:30pm, the Montgomery Central Elementary School Choir will perform followed by greetings from Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett at 3:45pm.
Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett Recognizes Military Veterans

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, for the third consecutive year, took the opportunity to recognize the military veterans in each department who work for Montgomery County Government.
Never one to miss an opportunity to thank our military and our veterans, Mayor Durrett began recognizing Montgomery County Government’s military veterans his first year in office and has turned it into an annual practice.
Clarksville County Club becomes Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified

Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) held a green ribbon cutting on Tuesday to celebrate Clarksville County Club (CCC) as the newest green organization.
Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, City of Clarksville Chief of Staff Heather Fleming, Chamber of Commerce Director Melinda Shepard, Bi-County Solid Waste Management Director David Graham, Montgomery County Public Information Officer Michelle Newell and CMCGCP Manager Carlye Sommers attended the celebration.

Hilltop Supermarket celebrates it’s 50th Anniversary this week

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville’s only family owned and operated grocery store, Hilltop Supermarket, is celebrating their 50th Anniversary. They are having bargains all week long to give thanks to the community that has supported them over the years.
In 1967, Wayne Hall opened the original Hilltop Supermarket, in a 4,000 square-feet building, with 13 employees across the street. Bursting at the seams, Hilltop moved to it’s current location into a brand new 12,000 square foot store and now had a staff of 30 employees.

Back at school, ‘Kindness is Cool’
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett have proclaimed August as “Kindness is Cool — Back to School Month.”
Durrett and Clarksville Mayor Pro Tem Valerie Guzman presented the proclamation Tuesday at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library as part of Clarksville Kindness Rocks project to promote random acts of kindness using art as a creative way to touch people.

Montgomery County Government announces Michelle Newell as new Public Information Officer

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government is proud to announce Michelle Newell will serve as the communications director and public information officer for Montgomery County Government beginning June 5th, 2017.
Newell holds a B.S. in Corporate Communications from Austin Peay State University. She currently serves as the program director for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program.

APSU celebrates 90th anniversary with special event and tree planting

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University President Alisa White and her husband, Elliott Herzlich, commemorated the University’s 90th anniversary with a special ceremony and tree planting on Wednesday.
The noon event took place on the lawn in front of the Browning Building, and it included performances by the Governors’ Own Marching Band, the APSU Chamber Singers, the University Choir, the Austin Peay Dance Team and members of the APSU Cheerleading Squad.

Montgomery County Population Estimated at 195,734

Clarksville, TN – U.S. Census Bureau estimates released last week show Montgomery County’s population at 195,734 as of July 1st, 2016. The increase from July 1st, 2015 to July 1st, 2016 means the county gained 2,440 new residents, or almost seven persons per day.
Since 2010, Montgomery County’s growth rate of 13.6%, or 23,372 new residents, is among the top counties in the state. Population estimates for the city of Clarksville have not yet been released.
