Clarksville to Host 2017 Football All-Star Classic

Clarksville, TN – The 2017 Toyota East-West Football All-Star Classic will be held in Clarksville, Tennessee at Austin Peay State University on Friday, December 8th, 2017. The All-Star Classic is organized by the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) and is made up of the state’s top 88 senior football players who are selected from more than 400 nominations.
“During the process of competing for the TSSAA state championship, we captured the attention of folks at TACA,” said Visit Clarksville Executive Director Theresa Harrington.

Customs House Museum becomes Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified

Montgomery County, TN – The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center is the first organization of 2017 to celebrate their Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification.
Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, Chamber of Commerce Director Melinda Shepard, several CMC Green Certification Steering Committee Members and several Museum Board Members attended their green ribbon cutting.

Clarksville kicks off the Christmas Season with annual Lighted Parade

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, December 3rd, 2016, the 57th Annual Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade was held in Downtown Clarksville. The theme this year was “Christmas Trees & Memories”.
Caroling on the courthouse steps began before the parade at 4:00pm. The Montgomery Central Elementary School Choir; Clarksville Academy Choirs; Northeast High School Exit One, JV Exit One & Concert Choirs; and West Creek High School Choir sang Christmas carols and performed to the delight of the crowd before the start of the parade.
Montgomery County seeks Nominations for Volunteers Stars Awards

Montgomery County Parks and Recreation earns state award for RichEllen Park

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department was recently awarded the Four Star Award for Excellence in Parks and Recreation for RichEllen Park.
The award was presented during the annual Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association state conference, held earlier this week in Memphis, TN.

Montgomery County Government partners with Siemens for Efficiency Project

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government is pleased to partner with Siemens Industry Inc. to begin a nearly $5 million, self funded efficiency project. Mayor Jim Durrett explains, “This project is very unique, as it will be funded through the savings that it generates over time.”
He continues, “Government doesn’t get to take on projects very often that pay for itself, so I’m really excited about this one. It’s a win-win for us. We will not only be upgrading and replacing much need items like chillers, boilers and lighting, but at the same time installing equipment that is much more efficient, saving us money on utilities for years to come.”

Mayor Jim Durrett says the efficiency project is projected to save the Montgomery County Government $358,827 in the first year.
City of Clarksville Population Estimates Climb Toward 150,000

Clarksville, TN – Estimates released yesterday from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey show Clarksville’s population at 149,120. Just shy of the 150,000 mark, this growth reflects an 11.6% increase over the past five years.
In the same report, Montgomery County population is growing quickly toward a population of 200,000, with a 2015 estimate of 193,479, which is also up 11.6% from 2010. The number of households in the county increased to 70,494, up 7.7% over 2014.
Pillar of Hope Exhibit

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government will once again display the Pillars of Hope exhibit at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 events.
This collection of hand painted ceramic tiles was designed to be mini-memorials honoring the heroes of 9/11.
