Road construction will not delay Memorial Day travelers

TDOT Suspends All Lane Closure Activity for Busy Holiday Weekend; Urges Safety in Work Zones

NASHVILLE, TN – Road construction won’t slow motorists down as they travel Tennessee’s highways this Memorial Day weekend. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 28th through 6:00 am on Tuesday, June 1st. This will provide maximum roadway capacity for motorists expected to travel in the state this Memorial Day weekend.

“Motorists traveling on our roadways this holiday weekend will have no construction-related lane closures impeding their travels,” said Commissioner Nicely. “We want to keep traffic flowing so everyone can have a safe and enjoyable trip through Tennessee.” [Read more]

National Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week is May 24th-30th, 2010.

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of swimming season, and is the traditional opening day of many public pools in Tennessee and across the country. While swimming offers numerous health benefits, recreational water can also transmit pathogens that cause illness. The Tennessee Department of Health joins in the sixth annual observance of National Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week May 24th-30th to help make sure residents and visitors have a safe and healthy swimming season. Memorial Day Discount available at five Tennessee State Parks

Special rate at participating park inns offered; various events planned across state

NASHVILLE, TN – Make plans now to spend Memorial Day weekend at one of five Tennessee State Parks offering special inn rates. In addition, various Memorial Day activities are planned across the state, providing a number of recreational opportunities for the entire family.

A 33 percent discount will be offered on inn rooms at the following state parks: Fall Creek Falls, Henry Horton, Montgomery Bell, Natchez Trace and Paris Landing (excludes discounts for cabins and suites). The special offer requires a two-night minimum available Friday through Sunday. [Read more]

Candle Light Vigil

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 396 will hold it annual Candle Light Vigil on May 30th at 7:00 pm. This year the event will be held at the Veterans Plaza by the Health Department.

They are also sponsoring the Veterans wall from Chattanooga. The wall will arrive sometime on Saturday the 29th. This wall will be placed at Veterans Plaza by the Health Department in the parking lot.
