APSU staff members honored for continuous service, retirement or education

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several employees at Austin Peay State University were recognized Friday, July 22nd for their continuous years of service. A reception was held in the Morgan University Center ballroom to honor those employees.

Donna Liverett, administrative assistant in the APSU Department of Chemistry, was honored for her 40 years of service to APSU.
Employees with 25 years are Clifford Frederick, Cheryl Garrett, David Gleckler, Denise Hemingway, Michele Jones, Betty Leimer and Julia McGee.

APSU Public Relations office wins awards at TCPRA

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won three awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held May 18th-20th at Chattanooga State Community College.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories. APSU Philosophy Department honors student who has audited courses for 20-plus years

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Mildred Frensley may be the true definition of a “lifelong learner.”

In 1988, she decided to take the Critical Reasoning and Logic course at Austin Peay State University.

“I didn’t want to stagnate,” she said. “I wanted to learn something else.”

More than 20 years later, Frensley has audited almost every philosophy course offered in the APSU Department of History and Philosophy – some even more than once.

Faculty, staff at APSU recognized for their work

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Three employees at Austin Peay State University recently were recognized through their scholarly and professional activities.

Dr. Culley Carson-Grefe, professor of languages and literature, delivered a paper, titled “Teaching Business French: A Communicative Approach,” on January 11th at the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities. [Read more]

APSU to have 1st Run@Work Day September 17th for faculty/staff

Austin Peay State UniversityA total of 85 faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University will put on their walking and running shoes later this week to take part in the University’s first Run@Work Day.

The inaugural Run@Work Day at APSU, sponsored by University Recreation, will be from noon-12:30pm, Friday, September 17th outside the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center. The event is open to faculty and staff at APSU.

The local event coincides with the National Run@Work Day, held the third Friday of every September and sponsored by the Road Runners Club of America. The event, which started nationally five years ago, encourages people to incorporate at least 30 minutes of walking or running into their daily lives. [Read more]

APSU School of Nursing receives AT&T Foundation grant

Austin Peay State UniversityWith the help of a $10,000 Communication Foundation Grant from AT&T, the School of Nursing at Austin Peay State University will develop an intervention program for upper-level nursing students pursuing their bachelor’s degrees.

Lanie Johnson, regional director of external affairs at AT&T, presented the grant during a reception held July 21st at APSU.
