Clarksville’s Customs House Museum January 2014 Exhibits and Activities

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is located in historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.

In the month of January, the Museum will feature Dane Carder: Ghosts and Hopes, The Art of Jeffrey Stone, Neil Crockarell: The Sewing Room, TACA Regional Exhibition, Of Glaze & Kiln: The Art of Melody & Ken Shipley, Sunday Family Fun: Indoor Bird Watching, Let’s Find Boats, and Art & Lunch Film: Alberto Giacometti.

Sunday Family Fun: Indoor Bird Watching
January 5th, 1:00pm–4:00pm

Too cold to go outside to look for birds? Visit the Dewald Gallery to find our beautiful porcelain Boehm birds; then come to the classroom to make a flock of birds to take home. Free with paid admission or museum membership. For more information contact Sue Lewis at 931.648.5780.

Let’s Find Boats
January 15th & 16th, 10:30am–11:30am

Children 3 – 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to explore the museum from a child’s perspective. We will look for boats, read a story, and make a craft. This activity is free with paid admission or museum membership. Siblings are always welcome. For more information, contact Sue Lewis at 931.648.5780.

Art & Lunch Film: Alberto Giacometti
Thursday, January 23rd, 12:05pm

Free admission to film. Bagged lunches welcome. The son of a painter, Alberto Giacometti was born in 1901 in Italian-speaking Switzerland. At 18, he left school to find himself. Soon after, he announced that he would devote his life to art. In conjunction with the exhibit TACA Regional Exhibition.

The museum will be closed January 1st for New Year’s Day.

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State’s second largest general museum. With over 35,000 square feet of the region’s best hands-on activities and special events…people of all ages agree – the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!

The Explorer’s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice’s Attic, McGregor’s Market and kitchen, and of course – the Bubble Cave! Finally, get “all aboard” to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers “ride the rails” every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Sr. Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.

APSU employees report various achievements

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Victoria McCarthy and Dr. Robyn Hulsart, both associate professors of professional studies, won best conference paper at the May 2012 conference of The Academic Forum. The title of their paper was “A Crisis Management Plan for Ethical Misconduct and Financial Fraud.” [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, December 4th 2010 at 3:00pm Planters Bank held their Nissan Cube Giveaway. The winner was Eric Huneycutt.

Clarksville, TN – Planters Bank gave away the Nissan Cube yesterday. The Catch the Cube giveaway was sponsored by Garland Nissan and Matthews Nissan. Owner and President O.B. Garland along with other dealership employees were on hand to watch the giveaway.

The contest kicked off at the 2010 Rivers & Spires festival in April. Eight months later after 3,000-4,000 entries the 12 finalists were selected.

They were selected at events such as Rivers & Spires, Clarksville’s Downtown Market, and Hopkinsville’s Salute to Fort Campbell Week. Other finalists were drawn from online entries and new account openings at the bank’s eight branches. Finally, two were randomly drawn from all entries last week by a representative of Matthews Nissan. [Read more]
