Riverfest kicks off this afternoon and continues Saturday

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – The 2012 Riverfest Festival kicks off this afternoon. The free festival held on the banks of the Cumberland River at McGregor Park celebrates Clarksville’s river heritage.

Come out and join the City of Clarksville, Budweiser, and Agero as they celebrate the 25th annual Riverfest Celebration, September 7th and 8th, 2012. This Free, two day music and arts festival features four stages of a variety of local, regional and nationally-known entertainers, delicious food, and fun for the entire family.

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is extending the deadline on the cash prize offered to volunteers helping with soft drink sales and the Adventure Zone children’s area, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, on September 7th and 8th at McGregor Park.

The group or organization who registers the most volunteers through Hands On Nashville by September 4th will receive $500.00. [Read more]

Riverfest Regatta Deadline is September 5th

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – The Riverfest Regatta, sponsored by U.S. Bank, is not your typical boat race. The boats racing down the Cumberland River Saturday morning, September 8th, will be made of cardboard, a few other approved materials and new this year, plastic bottles!

Not only will teams be racing for bragging rights, but trophies will also be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams in each division. [Read more]

USS LST 325Clarksville, TN – On September 26th-30th a key piece of military history will be on the banks of the Cumberland River in Clarksville, TN. Join us at McGregor Park as we welcome the LST-325. The LST crew will provide a rare glimpse into this floating monument as visitors are able to climb aboard and explore the ship.

Military enthusiasts, history buffs, and school groups will learn how it was instrumental in battles dating back to WWII.

Riverfest Riverside Drive Lane Closures and Park Information

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – There will be lane closures on Riverside Drive for Riverfest beginning September 6th continuing through September 9th. Traffic will be slower moving than usual during this time period, so we recommend drivers plan alternate routes or give themselves plenty of time to travel to their destination.

McGregor Park will be closed to the public on Wednesday, September 5th at daybreak in preparation for the festival. No admission will be charged to enter the park during the festival on September 7th and 8th. [Read more]

Plastic Bottle Division New this Year

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – The Riverfest Regatta, sponsored by U.S. Bank, launches Saturday, September 8th, 2012 at 10:00am at McGregor Park Boat Ramp.

This year marks the 6th year for the annual Riverfest Regatta, where participants build their own boats using materials from a specified list, and race them on the Cumberland River. The heats are timed with the fastest time being declared the winner in the respective classes. The course is 100 yards long.

Check in for participants starts at 9:00am.

Riverfest partners with F.U.E.L to help collect food for children in Clarksville

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – Riverfest is excited to partner with F.U.E.L., a food subsidization program, by serving as a collection site for food donations, September 7th and 8th, 2012 at McGregor Park.

F.U.E.L (Full of Emmaus Love), is designed to feed children whose only food source may be the food they are receiving at school by collecting donations, bagging them and distributing to schools to place in children’s back packs each Friday. The program currently services 1800 children in the Clarksville Montgomery School System. [Read more]

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteers to help with soft drink sales, the Adventure Zone children’s area, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, as well as the Cornhole Tournament on September 7th and 8th at McGregor Park.

Riverfest Lighted Boat Parade

RiverFest 2012Clarksville, TN – On Saturday night, September 8th, sit back and watch as the Cumberland River is illuminated in a majestic display of floating lights during the 5th Annual Riverfest Lighted Boat Parade. Don’t want to just be a bystander in the show? Enter your boat in the festivities and you may even come home with an award!

Judging will take place at the McGregor Park courtesy boat dock. Locations throughout McGregor Park during the Riverfest Celebration will offer public viewing. In the event of inclement weather, boats will be judged at the Montgomery County Conservation Club and boats will not be expected to travel the parade route. Award results will be announced onstage after the completion of the parade.
