Austin Peay State University spotlights student community service at High Impact Practices Showcase

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement, in association with the departments of Career Services and International Education and the Office of Undergraduate Research, held a High Impact Practices (H.I.P.) Showcase on November 30th, highlighting the work of University students and professors in applying learning to real-world scenarios over the past year.
Over 150 people attended the event, which saw 30 students present their experiences in high impact practices.

Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window,’ rated PG, and brought to you by Miller-Motte Technical College, will be shown at approximately 7:45pm (dependent on sunset).

Austin Peay State University’s Lisa Lewis publishes tap dance textbook

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Lisa Lewis, Austin Peay State University associate professor of Health and Human Performance, has spent much of her life in a pair of tap shoes.
As a young dancer, she trained under tap legends such as Gregory and Maurice Hines and Al Gilbert, and she later traveled the country during her career as a professional dancer.
APSU P.E. Majors help disabled with sports, fitness skills

Clarksville, TN – Service learning in the classrooms is gaining acceptance in higher education as a way for students to help the community using the knowledge learned. One class is doing just that this semester.
For 30 minutes every Friday in the Dunn Center, students in the adaptive physical education course teach basic sports and fitness skills such as throwing and catching to clients of varying disabilities in the Progressive Directions Inc. program, which provides mental retardation services in Montgomery and Stewart counties.

APSU to offer preschool fitness program in April

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Health and Human Performance will conduct a preschool fitness program next month.
Students enrolled in the health and human performance program will teach classes in body awareness, catching, kicking, throwing and striking skills, rhythm and dance, and gymnastics activities. [Read more]
