Austin Peay State University professors publish “But if a Zombie Apocalypse Did Occur…,” a scholarly book on zombies
September 27, 2015
Clarksville, TN – The decaying, dangerous world of mega-popular television show and comic series “The Walking Dead” is not real and will never be our reality.
But if zombies did start shambling down our real world streets, it wouldn’t be the worst idea if we had a plan.
Taking advantage of a unique overlapping of both personal and professional interests, Dr. Antonio Thompson, Austin Peay State University associate professor of history, and his wife, APSU associate professor of biology Dr. Amy Thompson, recently completed work on a new academic book, titled “But If a Zombie Apocalypse Did Occur: Essays on Medical, Military, Governmental, Ethical, Economic and Other Implications.”

Blue ribbons and lots of memories at Rivers and Spires’ Quilts of the Cumberland Show
April 20, 2012

Clarksville, TN –
What do white gloves, fat quarters, a Civil War history lesson, blue ribbons and a tribute to an old friend all have in common? They are all part of this year’s Quilts of the Cumberland quilt show during Rivers and Spires here in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Madison Street United Methodist Church has hosted the Quilts of the Cumberland Quilt Show since its beginning four years ago. The Quilt show itself is held in the Activities/gymnasium area behind the main Sanctuary with the entrance off Commerce Street.
This year there were nearly 70 quilts exhibited, including a tribute to Bea Goddard, a local master quilter who passed away just 3 weeks ago. Bea’s family members were so gracious in lending some of her prize winning quilts as well as the quilt she was making for this year’s show, still in progress. On exhibit are also Bea’s many ribbons and awards. Bea will be missed by many in the quilting community.
PKP at APSU needs used, new children’s books to give as Halloween treats
October 8, 2010
Clarksville, TN – For the eighth consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at Austin Peay State University is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project.
Through this project, PKP distributed more than 1,500 books to community children during last year’s G.H.O.S.T. (Great Halloween Options for Safe Trick-or-Treating), the on-campus alternative for safe trick-or-treating. Currently, PKP has some books on hand for distribution during G.H.O.S.T., slated this year from 4:00pm-7:00pm, Sunday, October 31st but needs many more. Since the inception of the Candy for the Mind project in 2003, hundreds of children who trick-or-treat at APSU have been thrilled to receive a book as a Halloween treat. [Read more]
