Austin Peay State University recognizes outstanding faculty during 2016 Academic Awards ceremony

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) recognized several outstanding faculty members during the annual Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony in the Mabry Concert Hall on Tuesday, April 26th.
The University’s top faculty honor, the APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award, was presented to Dr. Mike Gotcher, professor of communication.
Austin Peay State University Choral Activities hosting “The Big Sing” on April 12th

Clarksville, TN – As another academic year nears its end, APSU choral activities celebrates the grand finale of the choral season with the biggest collection of vocal talent to date in the third annual “The Big Sing.”
On April 12th at 5:30pm, upwards of 158 singers from Austin Peay State University and Paducah Tilghman High School will join together at the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the University campus in a free performance of a wide range of vocal compositions.
APSU Chamber Singers to embark on March tour of Tennessee, Illinois

Clarksville, TN – This March, Austin Peay State University’s premiere choral ensemble – the Chamber Singers – will showcase their talents in Tennessee and Illinois during their 2016 tour. The group will visit local high schools during the day, and they will perform free concerts for members of these local communities.

APSU Choral Activities presents Fall Choral Concert, Choir Fest in October

Clarksville, TN – This fall is shaping up to be another busy semester for Austin Peay State University Choral Activities, as current APSU students will display their talents, while hundreds of young music students from across the state will get a chance to experience what the University has to offer.
At 7:30pm on October 22nd, the Clarksville community will get their first chance this year to hear the University’s talented group of singers with a concert at the campus’ George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall. The Fall Choral Concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature both choral groups performing an eclectic array of music, as well as a choral union performance of both groups. [Read more]
APSU professor Dr. Korre Foster to conduct Académie de Musique choir in Paris

Clarksville, TN – In partnership with the French Académie de Musique, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of music Dr. Korre Foster will conduct a trio of choral performances in July in Paris.
Under a French-American exchange supported through a grant from the Florence Gould Foundation, Foster will be working with the Académie’s Chamber Choir, a collection of university, college and conservatory students gathered from throughout France.
APSU Chamber Singers embark on a vocal four of four states

APSU hosting Fifth Annual Holiday Dinner December 5th and 6th

Clarksville, TN – On a Saturday evening last December, a thin layer of snow covered downtown Clarksville. An icy, winter wind rattled the decorations hanging from streetlights, and most of the sidewalks were empty because it was too cold to go outside.
One of the only signs of life on that quiet night came from the center of the Austin Peay State University campus, where hundreds of people hurried into the Morgan University Center for the Department of Music’s Annual Holiday Dinner.
APSU choral concert to re-imagine and re-examine “The Wizard of Oz”

Clarksville, TN – In L. Frank Baum’s hometown of Chittenango, New York, the brick sidewalks are painted yellow and the shops have names like “Auntie Em’s Place” and the “Emerald City Grill.”
This little village doesn’t really resemble the magical Oz, but it is part of the ongoing reinterpretation of Baum’s famous children’s story, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
That famous work has been re-imagined numerous times over the years, with the famous 1939 musical, “The Wizard of Oz,” the 1978 Michael Jackson fantasy, “The Wiz,” and Gregory Maguire’s bestselling book, later made into a hit Broadway musical, “Wicked.”
APSU choral activities gain International Reputation

Clarksville, TN – In early February, Dr. Korre Foster, director of choral activities at Austin Peay State University, turned on his computer to watch a live broadcast of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (TMC).
The acclaimed, 100-year-old choir is one of the largest and most respected choral organizations in Canada, but that evening, Foster was more interested in watching one of the guest conductors – APSU graduate student Zach Thompson.
