Welcome Home Veterans Celebration holds Parade, Lee Greenwood Concert

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – From September 15th–19th, 2021, Clarksville and Oak Grove welcomed visitors from around the nation to join in recognition of the service and sacrifice made by America’s Veterans. The five days of events and activities included guest speakers, exhibits, meals and social events, music, and more.

Featured exhibits for the 6th annual Welcome Home Veterans Celebration included the American Veteran Traveling Tribute Wall, the Field of Honor-Veterans Tribute, and the Traveling Korean War Memorial. All of which were set up on the spacious grounds of Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Casino.

USS LST-325 arrives in Clarksville Wednesday, September 6th

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – The USS LST-325, 328-foot-long landing ship tank, will arrive in Clarksville on Wednesday, September 6th, 2017. The ship’s arrival in Clarksville is one of the many activities that are part of Visit Clarksville’s Welcome Home Veterans Celebration.

The LST-325 will be open for tours beginning at 9:00a.m. on Thursday, September 7th through 5:00pm Friday, September 15th. The LST will depart from Clarksville on Saturday, September 16th, 2017.

Field of Honor Tribute Flags Available for Order

All flags will be displayed in the Field of Honor – Veterans Tribute at Beachaven Vineyards and Winery, 1100 Dunlop Lane, September 14th-17th.

This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

An Exhibit by Heike Sichterman and Claus “Dutch” Mann

Downtown Artists Co-opClarksville, TN – The Downtown Artists Co-op is proud to present “Delights of Winter”, an exhibit of fine art featuring Claus “Dutch” Mann and Heike Sichterman. The exhibit features hand-made jewelry and photography by Heike and intricate, wood carvings by Dutch. The Exhibit begins January 2nd, 2014 and runs through February 1st.

For this exhibit, Heike was inspired by “the European palaces built in the Baroque style. The opulence and splendor in gold and vivid colors one would see in the interior, (this) is what I tried to recreate in my jewelry reminiscent of what the ladies would wear for a lavish Winter Ball.“

New APSU scholarship to honor legendary basketball coach Ben Fendley

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – For 34 years, if you wanted to play basketball at Clarksville High School, you had to first survive the grueling practices of that school’s legendary coach, Ben Fendley. The U.S. Marine Corps and Korean War veteran knew what his players were capable of achieving, so he made sure they went home exhausted each night.

“You had better be prepared to give him everything you had in practice every day, or there was no place for you on his team,” Wayne Pace, former CHS player and former chief financial officer and executive vice president for Time Warner Inc., said. “Practice was brutal; games were the treat.” [Read more]

Army Veteran Hubert Thomas to be Honored by House of Heroes this week

April 3, 2012

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – House of Heroes, Inc., a community-focused 501(c)(3) program, is coming to Clarksville on April 4th and 5th, 2012, to honor Sergeant Major (Ret.) Hubert Thomas and his wife, Mary Elizabeth.

The House of Heroes program honors military and public safety veterans and/or their spouses by repairing and improving their homes at no cost. Since its inception in 1999, the program has repaired over 450 homes nationwide. The Thomas’ house will be the program’s first project in Tennessee. [Read more]

Ceremony to honor Joel Plummer planned

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – State Senator Tim Barnes has announced that Montgomery County officials will hold an unveiling ceremony for the Joel Plummer Memorial highway on Friday, November 4th, commemorating the life of a public servant who made Montgomery County his home and his life.

Plummer was born in Montromery County where he lived his entire life. After serving in the U.S Navy during the Korean War, he returned home and was appointed deputy sheriff at the age of 22. Joel Plummer was eventually elected Sheriff of Montgomery County, was Montgomery County Trustee, Montgomery County Executive (now County Mayor) and was Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Safety from 1975-1979.
