Clarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.
Philip Voorhees became president of the Tennessee Association on Higher Education and Disability during the organization’s annual conference on April 13th.
Lynette Taylor, Martin Golson and Philip Voorhees recently were awarded a TBR Diversity Access Grant for serving at-risk students. [Read more]
Quantum Confusion at the Customs House Museum during Women’s History Month

Clarksville, TN – Charcoal people drawn on wood have taken over the Orgain Gallery of the Customs House Museum through May 20th. An exhibit by Knoxville based artist Denise Stewart Sanabria, Quantum Confusion explores a theory of parallel worlds.
The installation size is approximately 8’W x 16’L x 8’H, and contains eleven full scale charcoal portraits on cut-out plywood, mounted on black floor stands. Two sheets of Plexiglas are sandwiched between emerging and disappearing people. [Read more]
Clarksville Montgomery County School System names Assistant Principal for Carmel Elementary

Montgomery County, TN – Susan Holloway has been selected by the Clarksville Montgomery County School System to serve as assistant principal at the community’s newest elementary school, set to open in August.
Holloway currently is the advanced learning specialist for first through fifth grades in the Cobb County, Georgia school system, where she has worked since 1998.
Susan Holloway to be the Assistant Principal for Carmel Elementary when it opens.
Austin Peay State University hosts Annual Guitar Festival February 20th and 21st

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts is bringing its annual Guitar Gestival, featuring guest artist concerts and master classes, back to Clarksville this month.
The concerts, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7:30pm on February 20th-21st in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. [Read more]
Tennessee Students Compete for Honors at District History Day Contests

Austin Peay State University to play host to North Middle District Contest
Nashville, TN – Beginning next week, students from across the state will demonstrate their research abilities, knowledge and creativity in the world’s leading program for history education.
The district level competitions for Tennessee History Day are scheduled to take place from February 22nd through March 24th in Greeneville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, and Memphis. In the competitions, students in grades six through 12 will present history-themed projects in a variety of formats – including museum-style exhibits, papers, web sites, documentaries and even live performances. Judges are university professors, high school teachers, museum curators, archivists and other public historians.
UT Extension Launches Online Domestic Kitchen Certification Course

Knoxville, TN – Earning certification to prepare, manufacture and sell certain foods from a home kitchen is now more convenient for Tennesseans thanks to a new online training module from University of Tennessee Extension.
Domestic Kitchen Food Safety Training, which launched Wednesday, February 1st, provides instruction centered around the state’s Domestic Kitchen Rule. The rule allows people to commercially prepare, manufacture and sell non-potentially hazardous foods in the home while ensuring the public’s health is protected. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University Foundation selects new members to serve for 2012

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Foundation has selected 14 new members for 2012.
The APSU Foundation provides the structure through which the University can work directly with special volunteers and community leaders to enhance the financial well being of the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to financially support the University.
The Foundation is a separate entity and is chartered by the state, with the authority to receive private gifts in support of the University. Through its executive committee, the Foundation makes its own policy decisions. The University provides administrative support to the Foundation. [Read more]
Clarksville Montgomery County School System HR Reorganization Introduces Educator Quality

Montgomery County, TN – When Bruce Jobe retired last month as the Chief Human Resources Officer, Schools Director Mike Harris named former HR Director Jeanine Chester as the new Chief and promoted former Assistant HR Director Cydney Miller to take over Mrs. Chester’s position. That left the group with the opportunity to reconfigure the open position into a staff member who would be dedicated to the hiring of quality teachers and school administrators.
Phyllis Casebolt, who has served as principal at Clarksville High for the past three years, will begin her duties this month as Director of Educator Quality.

Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce Announces New Membership Recruitment Representative

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Denny Fry as its new Membership Recruitment Representative.
Denny joins the Chamber after spending the last several years working as a freelance graphic design and marketing professional. Originally from the St. Louis area, Denny moved to Tennessee with his family and attended Tennessee Tech. There he received his B.A. in English and Journalism which eventually led him to Knoxville TN.

Wild ginger across Eastern U.S. Focus of next session of APSU Provost Lecture Series

Clarksville, TN – Wild ginger is one of the most common wildflower species found in the moist forests of eastern North America, where it often carpets forest floors with its distinctive kidney-shaped leaves and small brownish-maroon flowers.
In the past, botanists recognized three different species of wild ginger but today all recognize just one species, Asarum canadense. This topic will be the focus of the next session of the Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University.
