Kim McMillan Sworn in as Clarksville’s new Mayor

Clarksville, TN – On January 3rd, 2010, Kim McMillan was sworn in as the new Mayor of Clarksville. She is also the first female Mayor of Clarksville. The event was held at the Roxy Regional Theatre at 4:00pm.
Altrusa “Dancing with the Stars” announces contestants

Clarksville, TN – Altrusa International’s 3rd Annual “Dancing with the Stars” is proud to announce their 2011 celebrities. This year’s preformance will include Mayor-Elect Kim McMillan, Jackson Elementary teacher Sandra Ford, Legend Bank’s Britney Campbell, Jim Knoll, Public Information Officer of the Clarksville Police Department, Conrad Edington of Edington ETC and retired banker Ronnie Hunter.
The “dancers” have already started taking lessons with The Clarksville Dance club and will soon travel to Nashville to be paired with their professional dance partners to begin the rigorous choreography for the show scheduled for March 19th at Austin Peay State University Mass Communications.

Austin Peay State University cuts the ribbon on the Hemlock Semiconductor Building

Austin Peay State University held a ribbon cutting for its new Chemical Engineering Technology Facility yesterday. The facility which has been designated the Hemlock Semiconductor Building will train Austin Peay Students to fill the skilled labor needs for the new Polysilicon plant being built in North Clarksville. The ribbon cutting was attended by area dignitaries along with HSC officials, and was open to the general public.

Cumberland Bank & Trust received Crime Free Business Certification from Clarksville Police Department

Cumberland Bank & Trust was recently presented with the Crime Free Business certification by the Clarksville Police Department (CPD). Cumberland Bank & Trust is the second business in Clarksville to receive the certification and the first business with multiple locations throughout Montgomery County to be recognized as a Crime Free Business. Ron Sleigh, President / CEO said “ Cumberland Bank & Trust is excited to be a part of the Crime Free Business program and proud to be the first bank in Clarksville / Montgomery County to complete this program. CPD should be commended for their work with the Clarksville Community to promote safety in the work place.”

Comedy on the Cumberland delivers for Project F.U.E.L.

In a gala event at the Roxy Regional Theatre local Radio Station owner and Comedian Hank Bonecutter’s dream of using his love of comedy to enact community change came true. The first Comedy on the Cumberland raised approximately $6,000 of which the proceeds went to benefit Project F.U.E.L.
Project F.U.E.L. feeds hungry children in the Clarksville/Montgomery County school system. “Over twelve hundred school children leave school on Friday, and don’t have a solid meal again until they return to school on Monday”, said Bonecutter, “This is embarrassing and unacceptable”. The life’s mission of Denise Skidmore, who was led to this effort by her Christian faith. “I was searching for a purpose in my life, wondering what would be my footprint if I were to die today” she said, “I want to feed every child I can. I won’t stop until they are all taken care of”.
The success of this show has already created quite a buzz among Nashville comedians. With comedians contacting Bonecutter to see how they can get to Clarksville to be part of future Comedy on the Cumberland shows.
John McDonald and Tom Thayer from the Roxy Regional Theatre graciously provided the use of their luxurious theatre as the venue for this charity benefit.
F&M bank and Wendy’s of Clarksville provided the financial backing for the event, with Clarksville Online, Discover Clarksville, Ad One, Clarksville’s Best Buys along with CDE Lightband providing promotion for the event. “All of our partners jumped on this opportunity to help Project F.U.E.L without hesitation”, said Bonecutter, “We couldn’t have done it without them”. McMillan to run for Governor

Kim McMillan makes it clear: she’s running for governor. “These are tough times but I believe in the future of Tennessee because I believe in the people of Tennessee,” said McMillan, Tennessee’s first female House Majority Leader and former member of Governor Bredesen’s cabinet.
“For almost a year I’ve been listening to the needs of our neighbors and families and loss is on everybody’s mind– loss of jobs, loss of homes, loss of health insurance, loss of retirement security. I know that tough times call for leadership that lifts us up and brings us together,” she added.
“I’m running for governor because I believe I can bring Tennessee together, and I know that together we can do more than just make it through – we can make it better.”
McMillan filed papers to establish an exploratory committee for the 2010 governor’s campaign last spring. “The people of Clarksville and Montgomery County have been good to me and that’s why I met with my hometown paper to make my intentions clear. I want to make sure they know that I’m in this race and I’m in it all the way.”
McMillan teaches political science at APSU.
