City and County Administrators Discuss Sustainability with Specialists in Chattanooga

Montgomery County, TN – In the ongoing effort to promote environmental sustainability in Clarksville and Montgomery County, City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers sent administrators to meet with Chattanooga’s Sustainability Office to learn about their environmental practices.
Employees with the Chattanooga Office of Sustainability spent the day with City Chief of Staff Charlie Koon, Director of Administration Phil Harpel and Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program Manager Michelle Newell, explaining their climate action plan and how they work with the community to implement changes.

Walking Event to Kick Off Mayor’s Fitness Council

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will lead a group of residents on her first “Walks with the Mayor” at 1:30pm Tuesday, May 17th from the Ajax Turner Senior Center, 953 Clark Street. Clarksville Mayor Observes National Nursing Home Week

Clarksville, TN – In observance of National Nursing Home Week, May 8th through May 14th, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan visited two local nursing homes on Monday and presented proclamations.
“Citizens of Clarksville who now reside in local nursing homes have contributed greatly to the heritage, success and growth of our community,” McMillan said. “Nursing home residents of any age or ability are now themselves living history and a precious resource.”

“What we did this year, was to have a different approach this time. We brought the City Officials, County Officials, City Department Heads, Chamber of Commerce and anyone that would have some input to the situation. Everyone met at the Emergency Operations Center to get the information on what we would expect. Then we went into action, having all the departments get their people ready to react to the coming storms.”
Kim also talks about the city budget, the pay raise for City Employees, the East-West Corridor, the Clarksville Electric Department, and the progress of the Clarksville Marina and Liberty Park.
City officials are looking at options for subdivision drainage

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan met Thursday afternoon with Clarksville Street Department officials about drainage issues in Woodstock Subdivision.
After inspecting the situation at the subdivision Wednesday afternoon, Street Department staff members on Thursday explained the drainage issues there, as well as the complex history of the subdivision’s development. [Read more]
State of the Art Facility Being Created by Jostens, Bringing Additional Jobs to Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – Minneapolis-based memory book and scholastic products corporation, Jostens, announced today that it will be establishing a new state of the art memory book facility in Clarksville-Montgomery County, TN. The announcement means an enhanced facility will be based at a new location in Clarksville-Montgomery County with the current facilities located on Highway 48 transitioning into this new location after the completion of the 2011 school year.

The Fort Defiance Interperative Center Ribbon Cutting

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville held an invitation only grand opening for the newly redesigned Fort Defiance site on Thursday. The public opening is scheduled for this morning with a gala event that aims to bring the history of the fort to life. Fort Defiance never fired a shot in anger, however the Fort and the city it guards looms large in the history of the Civil War era.
Hiller recognized for 35 years of city employment

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan joined with members of the city’s Information Technology Department on Tuesday, March 22nd, to recognize the 35th anniversary of Jeannie Hiller’s employment with the city. Hiller is the IT Department’s executive assistant.
“I’ve been here though several mayors,” Hiller told Mayor McMillan. “There were some good days and some bad days, but the good days outweighed the bad.”

Clarksville Leaders make Nashville Post’s “In Charge” List

Nashville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is among a handful of local people who made the Nashville Post’s “In Charge” list of Middle Tennessee’s business and political “power brokers.”
This is the second year the prominent Music City business publication has recognized those in the Nashville area who have “the ability to use a position to create opportunity for others … in business, government or on broader civic issues,” according to the magazine’s March/April issue. The list was broken into various categories such as Banking & Finance, Education, and Government/Politics, in addition to Media, Music, Sports and Technology. [Read more]
