“Father of the Falcons” tells story of Fort Campbell High School football coach Marshall Patterson

“Father of the Falcons: Coach P’s Military Brats & ‘The Game of Life’”Clarksville, TN – A former newspaperman has written a book that tells the inspiring story of a legendary high school football coach who mentored the sons and daughters of soldiers at the Fort Campbell Army post for more than three decades.

“Father of the Falcons: Coach P’s Military Brats & ‘The Game of Life’” was released to the public on Saturday, October 1st. The author of the book is Rob Dollar, who worked for the Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, as a reporter and senior editor for 20 years before leaving the newspaper in 2003.

My Two-Cents with Hank BonecutterClarksville, TN – As my wife and I were preparing for a recent vacation, we started collecting the books we planned to read while on our trip. I usually grab the latest offering by Harlan Coben, Patricia Cornwell, or John Grisham.

She is currently catching up on the “Left Behind” series, but as she was putting our choices in the bag, she reached for my autographed copy of “When Newspapers Mattered: The News Brothers & their Shades of Glory” written by former Leaf-Chronicle “newspapermen” Tim Ghianni and Rob Dollar.

Christopher Burawa, with Cynthia Hogue from Arizona State University and Clyde Moneyhun from Boise State University, presented a panel, “Translating Living Writers,” at the 2012 American Literary Translators Association annual conference held October 6th at the University of Rochester. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Edward Wayne Chester, professor emeritus in the department of biology and the Center of Excellence for Field Biology, was presented the Conservation Award for 2011 at the annual meeting of the Tennessee Native Plant Society in September.

The award is given yearly to a person who has long advocated and supported the conservation and stewardship of Tennessee’s natural resources, especially native plants. Chester taught various biology and botany classes, conducted research and published numerous papers on the plant life of Tennessee and the southeast for more than 40 years. He currently teaches adjunct classes in biology and continues his research and writing. [Read more]
