Austin Peay History Students present new research at Fort Defiance event

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Members of the Austin Peay State University History Club recently had the opportunity to present new research related to Fort Defiance at the historical site’s newest event, titled “Fresh Research, New Discoveries.”

A partnership between APSU’s History Club, Phi Alpha Theta history honors society and Fort Defiance, and funded through a Student Academic Success Initiative grant from APSU faculty senate, “Fresh Research, New Discoveries” saw Austin Peay students John Schuler and Jenny Brown explore the histories of African American men and women during the Civil War.

Battle of the Bulge seminar continues in Clarksville, March 17th

Battle of the Bulge seminar at Clarksville Train Station on Tuesday, March 17th, 2015, at 4:00pm

Battle of the BulgeClarksville, TN – On December 16th, 1944, the German Army launched a desperate offensive designed to split the Allied armies in two and capture the strategic supply port of Antwerp, Belgium. This offensive has come to be known as the Battle of the Bulge.

We are now in the midst of the 70th Anniversary of that offensive and historians from the Clarksville area including history faculty from Austin Peay State University will take part in presenting a series of programs that will educate, inform and enlighten the public as to the importance of this offensive. A highlight of one seminar will be actual World War 2 veterans that served in the Bulge fighting.

World War I Historian John Schuler to speak at Clarksville Montgomery County Library December 2nd

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Friends of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will be presenting speaker John Schuler on Monday, December 2nd at noon at the library.

The 100th anniversary of the start of World War I will be marked in 2014, and this presentation is in celebration of that milestone. [Read more]
