Roxy Regional Theatre brings William Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale” to the Stage

March 10, 2012

The Winter's TaleRoxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – Last night the Roxy Regional Theatre kicked off a production of one of William Shakespeare’s classic plays The Winter’s Tale, a story of envy, revenge, love and, ultimately, redemption. This marks their 27th consecutive year producing the Bard’s classic stories.

The play was directed by John McDonald and edited by Brandon Meeks, and tells the story of the jealous King Leontes of Sicilia who nearly topples his own kingdom when he falsely accuses his queen of adultery with his childhood friend, King Polixenes of Bohemia. In his foolishness and rage, he loses his wife, his son, and his baby daughter. The cycle of life and the power of true love come alive upon the Roxy stage, as a family is reunited, both physically and spiritually, through the power of forgiveness.

Christmas Memories

December 16, 2011

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – The Roxy Regional Theatre’s annual production of A Christmas Carol is in full swing after three very successful weekends. With the holidays being such an important time to us all, and our actors having to give up some of these holiday traditions to be apart of this cast, I thought it would be good for us all to reflect on what makes Christmas special to us.

So, last week, I asked the cast of A Christmas Carol, “What is your favorite childhood Christmas memory?” Here are some of the responses.

Hurry up! Catch one of the last few showings of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol at the Roxy Regional Theatre

December 15, 2011

A Christmas CarolClarksville, TN – This week the Roxy Regional Theatre will be staging the last few runs of their production of the Charles Dickens classic tale, A Christmas Carol. There are a few things that tell me Christmas is coming each year; the lighting of Christmas on the Cumberland, Downtown for the Holidays and the Christmas parade, and the Roxy’s wonderful annual rendition of this timeless Christmas story. This week is your last chance to catch this heartwarming show.

The play features John McDonald as Ebenezer Scrooge, and follows him as he meets the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future while rediscovering the true meaning of the Christmas season. McDonald is backed up by a stellar cast that includes: Ryan Bowie, Brianna Hertzberg, Travis Kendrick, Alan Lee, Brandon Meeks, Leah Sugerman and Joylene Taylor. These are some of the best professional actors the Roxy has ever played host to.

Just a Typical…Saturday at the Roxy

November 9, 2011

Roxy Regional TheatreOne of the major misconceptions about the Roxy Regional Theatre, I think, is the fact that everything we do throughout the week takes place inside the 153-seat theatre. So, as Saturday, October 30 quickly approached, we stocked up on coffee, energy bars and hit the floors running.

A typical Saturday at the Roxy is already jam-packed but this particular Saturday was a little more packed than usual. The day began with our Saturday School of the Arts at 10am. We are fortunate to have close to 60 young people takes the acting portion of the program with our Artistic Director, John McDonald. They are working on a “workshop in-formance” of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream coming up in December.
