Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) students returning to campus this week will notice something different in the Morgan University Center’s food court – several state-of-the-art digital kiosks in front of the venue’s Chick-fil-A.

The ordering stations are part of a new, $257,000 renovation of the restaurant, and the APSU location marks the first time Chick-fil-A has installed the kiosks on a college campus.

APSU Housing sees Significant Influx of Applications

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Office of Housing, Residence Live and Dining Services is experiencing one of the largest influxes of applications in the history of the University.

As a result of the increase, Joe Mills, assistant vice president and director of housing, has made arrangements with two local hotels in preparation for an overflow of students seeking campus housing.

CDE Lightband and Geiger Promote Breast Cancer Awareness at Austin Peay State University

Clarksville Department of Electricity - CDE - CDE LightbandClarksville, TN – CDE Lightband and Geiger, along with the Livgeiger organization presented APSU with breast self-exam kits for the female students moving into the dorms this week.

The LIV® Breast Self-Exam Aid was designed by Olivia Newton-John, singer, songwriter, actress and 17 year breast cancer survivor.

APSU’s new Subway store is tops in Customer Support

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The new Subway restaurant at Austin Peay State University is among the top Subway shops in the mid-South region, according to APSU officials.

Joe Mills, assistant vice president of student affairs and director of housing at APSU, said auditors from the Subway corporation recently visited the campus Subway for quality standards. They informed campus dining officials that it was No. 1 in customer count and No. 2 in total sales, Mills said. There are 224 Subway stores in the region. [Read more]

Phase II construction of Austin Peay student housing now under way

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the last few weeks, the Austin Peay State University community has watched the demolition of three student residence halls that have been a mainstay on the campus for more than three decades.

Now, another historical milestone will unfold, months after the new Castle Heights residence hall opened on campus. Construction for the second phase of the student housing complex is under way on Drane Street – and it has the potential to change the layout of the campus.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University share their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Chris Burawa, director of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, had an article, titled “An Interview with Afaa Michael Weaver,” published in the Summer 2011 edition of Contemporary Literature. The article also was written by Cynthia Hogue and Stacey Waite. Burawa also will have a poem, “Dripping Surgery,” to appear in the October 2011 edition of Hayden’s Ferry Review. [Read more]

APSU’s Meacham Apartments to undergo Structural Repairs

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Last week, APSU physical plant staff discovered settlement cracks in the exterior façade of Meacham Apartments while conducting routine building maintenance. APSU officials are working with state and local officials to remediate the problem.

Meacham Apartments, an apartment style living complex built in 1981 and located on West Avenue, has settlement cracks in three of its five structures, including cracks in a walkway connecting the buildings. The settling is believed to be caused by water damage, likely from flooding conditions during recent years, according to APSU officials. [Read more]

Dr. Phyllis A. Camilleri and Dr. Jack Deibert, both professors of geology and geography, and Sue Breeden, analyst in the GIS Center, will present their research, titled “Preliminary Geologic Mapping and Quaternary Faulting of the Western Margin of the Grant Range, East-Central Nevada,” at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America, October 9th-12th in Minneapolis, MN.
