Community Arts Program at APSU Hosts Inaugural Musical Theater Camp

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Last Friday afternoon, a new musical premiered at the Austin Peay State University Music/Mass Communication Building’s Concert Hall. The show, “Intergalactic Space Trip,” was an ambitious, 15-minute production, featuring several musical numbers sung in a half dozen different languages.

When the cast, made up of local 8 to 12 year olds, took their final bow at the end of the show, the parents sitting in the audience agreed that it was a success. They were happy to see what their children had learned in only five days.

Suzuki Violin Lessons Prove Popular at APSU’s Community Arts Program

The Community School of the ArtsClarksville, TN – During the last year, some of Clarksville’s youngest citizens – 3- to 5-year-olds – have picked up violins and are learning to play them competently.

“I am really impressed by them,” JoAnn McIntosh, coordinator for the Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay State University, said. “They are all playing in tune. We have a fabulous new teacher, and we’d really like to expand this program.”

Last fall, Robin Eckert, a Nashville musician who studied violin performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, joined the CSA staff, bringing Suzuki violin instruction to the Clarksville-area. [Read more]

CSA Hosts End-of-Semester Performances and Exhibits

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A full semester of public art and music lessons is coming to a close at Austin Peay State University with a series of exhibits and concerts hosted by The Community School of the Arts at APSU.

For the last two decades, area adults and children have honed their creative talents and discovered new passions through the CSA. The program serves approximately 350 students of all ages and skill levels through programs in music, dance and the visual arts. The CSA was founded in 1990 with the goal of promoting and increasing awareness of the arts throughout the surrounding area. [Read more]

Community School of the Arts Fall Concerts Begin this Week

The CSA offers lessons in music, dance and the visual arts for the general community. Those classes culminate with the end of semester performances and exhibits. [Read more]

APSU Community School of the Arts slates December 9th performance as benefit concert for fire victim

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – At 7:00pm, Thursday, December 9th, Austin Peay State University’s Community School of the Arts will present a benefit concert to aid a local family whose house was destroyed in a fire December 7th.

The family includes a member of the Clarksville Youth Chorus, which will be featured on the program along with the Clarksville Teen Singers and the Clarksville Community Chorus.
Those who cannot attend the concert but would like to help should call the American Red Cross at 931-645-6401 and reference the Kay Davis family.
