Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department earned three statewide awards at the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association’s 65th Annual Conference in Memphis, TN.

The Workplace Wellness Award was presented November 16th, 2016 to Jennifer Byard and the Department’s Health Initiative committee for their focus on physical activity and wellness to heighten employee productivity, motivation, and general well-being. 

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department staff gathered outside their downtown headquarters to show off the three statewide awards they won this week.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan names Jennifer Byard Clarksville Parks and Recreation Director

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Jennifer Byard, who has distinguished herself as a leader in positions with several city departments, has been named director of the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announced Friday.

Byard had been Assistant Director since January 2015 and served as interim director of the department after Director Mark Tummons resigned in July to take a position in Texas.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – In true “walk the talk” fashion, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is demonstrating the city’s commitment to building a healthier and more successful community.

The Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness recently named the department a Healthier Tennessee Workplace for encouraging employees to live a healthy lifestyle – both at work and at home.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation staff members walk the Upland Trail as part of the department’s fitness challenge. The daily walks and other programs helped the department earn commendation as the state’s first Healthier Tennessee Workplace.

Clarksville’s Chocolate Affair gives exposure to local businesses

Chocolate AffairClarksville, TN – The second annual Chocolate Affair was held February 8th, 2014 at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center at Liberty Park. Chocolate lovers indulged on vendor samples of chocolate and other confectionery treats.

The event was a sellout, with 600 tickets sold and was enjoyed by all that attended. It also gave local businesses a chance to meet potential new customers.

Clarksville Job Fair to support Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter

Valvoline Instant Oil ChangeClarksville, TN – Convenient Car Care, Inc., a Clarksville based automotive company, is hosting a job fair at the Valvoline Instant Oil Change on Tuesday September 3rd, from 10:00am-3:00pm, and company officials indicate they will use the event to raise money and awareness for the Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter.

“We support the Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter, and want to support them in any way we possibly can,” said Candace Ursery, VP of Convenient Car Care. “Not only will we be hiring new members for our team, but we will be raising money and collecting bags of dog food for the Friends of the Shelter on September 3rd” Ursery said.

The Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – Due to unseasonably chilly weather and a blustery wind, the third day of Rivers and Spires looked like it was going to end with a whimper rather than a bang, the victim of the unpredictable spring weather. However as the afternoon wore on, more and more people showed up to enjoy all that the festival had to offer. “The crowd hung in even though we had monsoon winds and rains, and I think it says a lot about this festival, and how much people enjoy it” said Festival Manager Doug Barber.
