The final day of Rivers and Spires starts off slow, but picks up in the end

The Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – Due to unseasonably chilly weather and a blustery wind, the third day of Rivers and Spires looked like it was going to end with a whimper rather than a bang, the victim of the unpredictable spring weather. However as the afternoon wore on, more and more people showed up to enjoy all that the festival had to offer. “The crowd hung in even though we had monsoon winds and rains, and I think it says a lot about this festival, and how much people enjoy it” said Festival Manager Doug Barber.

Clarksville Leaders make Nashville Post’s “In Charge” List

Nashville PostNashville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is among a handful of local people who made the Nashville Post’s “In Charge” list of Middle Tennessee’s business and political “power brokers.”

This is the second year the prominent Music City business publication has recognized those in the Nashville area who have “the ability to use a position to create opportunity for others … in business, government or on broader civic issues,” according to the magazine’s March/April issue. The list was broken into various categories such as Banking & Finance, Education, and Government/Politics, in addition to Media, Music, Sports and Technology. [Read more]

Flood relief benefit concert

Clarksville Area Chamber of CommerceThe Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a benefit concert to assist the victims of the recent flood. “People Helping People” will take place Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 from 4:00 pm until 9:30 pm at Beachaven Winery & Vineyards. The concert is free and open to the public, however donations are welcome.

“Clarksville is a great community but in times of hardship, that is when we really start to shine,” says James Chavez, President and CEO of the Economic Development Council. “Neighbors are supporting each other, strangers are coming to the rescue and people are helping people. Community leaders presented with economic development award

Executives from Business Facilities magazine visited Clarksville on Tuesday to present community leaders with the publication’s Silver Award for 2009 Economic Deal of the Year. The award was based on Hemlock Semiconductor’s decision to base their $2.5 billion polysilicon plant in Clarksville.

Ted Coene, co-president of Group C Media, the publisher of Business Facilities, and senior account executive Ben Nachsin were on hand to present the award to the Economic Development Council, represented by EDC Chairman Mark Holleman; the Industrial Development Board, represented by current Chairman Bryce Sanders and Past Chairman Sammy Stuard; Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers; and City Mayor Johnny Piper who was represented by City Councilman David Allen, due an unavoidable conflict.
