Austin Peay State University student newspaper wins awards at national convention in Atlanta

Clarksville, TN – The All State, the student-run newspaper at Austin Peay State University, earned two national awards from the College Media Association (CMA) during the organization’s Fall National Media Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, October 29th.
Glavine Day, sports editor, earned a coveted second place national Pinnacle Award for Best Sports Page/Spread for her designs featuring the huge win by the Govs at the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championship.

Clarksville, TN – Rusken Packaging, Inc. announces the purchase of Clarksville-owned Cougar Packaging. All employees will continue with the new company, and former Cougar owners Gerri and Larry Wallace will continue in their roles for six months to ensure a smooth transition.
Rusken Packaging, a private, family-owned, $130 million company, manufactures corrugated cardboard boxes used for shipping.

43 APSU students named to prestigious Who’s Who among American universities and colleges

Clarksville, TN – Since 1934, the Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges has honored outstanding campus leaders for their scholastic and community achievements.
Schools across the country nominate their top students every fall for this prestigious designation, but only the top candidates out of thousands of nominees are bestowed with the honor. Clarksville-Montgomery County School System gets Grant to Cover Dual Enrollment Costs for STEM Academy, Middle College Students

Nashville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has received a $40,000 grant to pay for STEM Academy and Middle College High School’s students’ fees for dual enrollment in college courses.
The Tennessee College Access and Success Network awarded a total of $412,426 this week to six schools, two higher education institutions and four nonprofits in its third annual grant competition, raising the total amount of Race to the Top funds awarded by the Network to more than $1.6 million. Black Velvette rocks Rivers and Spires Festival

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday April 20th, at 5:45pm, Black Velvette set foot on the Courthouse Stage of the Rivers and Spires Festival and played in front of a large audience. From the first note of “Baggage Claim” their opening number, they had the crowd clapping and dancing in front of the stage.
Lead vocalists Anna Henderson and Tina Huff combine for a sultry sound that goes perfectly with the hot licks and edgy sounds from the band. Black Velvette commanded the stage and electrified the audience.

Heritage Bank parent company HopFed Bancorp, Inc. to acquire Tennessee-Based Sumner Bank & Trust

Hopkinsville, KY – HopFed Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: HFBC) (“HopFed”), the parent company of Heritage Bank in Hopkinsville, Kentucky (“Heritage”), today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sumner Bank & Trust (OTC Pink: SBKT), based in Gallatin, Tennessee (“Sumner”).
HopFed has agreed to pay approximately $14.3 million in cash, or $10.04 per share, to purchase all of the common stock and common stock equivalents of Sumner, including common stock that would be issued upon the conversion of Sumner’s convertible preferred stock upon a change of control (subject to adjustments). Bethel University named top graduate school in Business Journal’s ‘Book of Lists’

Clarksville, TN – Bethel University’s Executive MBA program has garnered yet another honor: The school has been named #1 in enrollment for graduate schools of business by both the Nashville and Memphis Business Journal’s “Book of Lists”. The title is awarded to the graduate school with the highest number of enrollees. A total of 498 students were enrolled in Bethel’s Master’s of Business Administration program in the fall of 2011.
