Civil War process of photo imaging focus of next APSU Provost Lecture Series

Susan Bryant, professor of art at APSU, will present “Photo Alchemy: Exploring the Wet-Plate Photography Process in the Digital Age” from 3:00pm-4:30pm, Thursday, October 20th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The black-and-white photograph speaks to the temporal nature of life, while also suggesting how photographer Susan Bryant, an Austin Peay State University professor of art, views the world.

“I’m drawn to subjects that are beautiful and that lend themselves to metaphor: the grace of a particular hand gesture, a lock of braided hair, a stack of suitcases,” she said.

APSU Professor Receives NSF Grant to Help Train Dendrochronologists

May 9, 2011

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Not a lot of options exist for college students wanting to study dendrochronology – the examination of tree rings to determine environmental variables such as droughts or fires that occurred centuries ago. Austin Peay State University has a Biogeography, Environment and Tree-ring Laboratory (BETR Lab) to conduct this type of research, but it’s in the minority compared to the rest of the nation.

“Most universities in this country don’t have a tree-ring lab,” Dr. Christopher Gentry, BETR lab director and assistant professor of geography at APSU, said. [Read more]
