Sango Elementary students become scientists of the day at Austin Peay State University

Clarksville, TN – What is a scientist? That’s the question Dr. Karen Meisch, interim dean of the Austin Peay State University (APSu) College of STEM, and her team answered this week with 140 Sango Elementary School first-graders, who visited the APSU campus May 9th, 2019 for a morning of scientific demonstrations.

APSU chemistry professor Bob Shelton awarded grant to advance green energy research

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Bob Shelton, Austin Peay State University associate professor of chemistry, has an idea for an extremely efficient automobile. He’d like to see a vehicle powered by water and sunlight rather than gasoline.
“In some ways, that’s the way plants work,” he said. “That’s what we’re going to try to mimic with our photocatalytic hydrogen producers that mimic the reaction of the oxygen-evolving center in plants.”

APSU Provost Lecture Series to have Biology professor Dr. Sergei Markov to discuss algae for practical purposes

Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University biology professor, who has gained international recognition with his research in the last few years, will be the next presenter of the Provost Lecture Series at APSU.
Dr. Sergei Markov, associate professor of biology, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, March 7th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. All sessions of the Provost Lecture Series are free and open to the public.
The title of his presentation is “Growing algae in photobioreactors for practical purposes.” [Read more]
Faculty, staff at APSU present at conferences, appear in publications

Clarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff employees at Austin Peay State University recently presented at conferences, had articles published or represented the University in some way.
Dr. Kristofer Ray, assistant professor of history, spoke at the Civil War Sesquicentennial Program of the Metropolitan Historical Commission on April 9th in Nashville. He explained how the leaders in both the North and South reinterpreted the precepts of America’s founding fathers to suit their own political, social and economic purposes. Ray also is editor of the Tennessee Historical Quarterly. [Read more]
Series at APSU to feature biology prof whose work is known globally

Clarksville, TN – The next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University will feature an APSU professor whose research in hydrogen production for possible use as a biofuel in vehicles has garnered international headlines.
Dr. Sergei Markov, associate professor in the APSU Department of Biology, will speak at 3:00pm, Thursday, March 24th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The event is free and open to the public.
