Dunbar Cave’s Spring Fling Schedule Announced

Dunbar Cave State Natural AreaClarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave have finalized the schedule for this year’s Spring Fling slated to take place rain or shine on Saturday, May 4th.

Come out and enjoy a day of free, family fun. A bird hikes with the Warioto Audubon Society, wild flower hike led by APSU botanist Rob Shepard and a trail hike led by Suva Batsin from our local chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association.

Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department to hold Public Involvement Workshop January 24th

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation department will hold a Public Involvement Workshop, Thursday, January 24th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Parks and Recreation Main office for residents to learn more about two potential projects identified in the 1999 Greenways Master Plan, which will complete a major section of the city’s riverside pedestrian trail development initiative. Boy Scout Troop 546 to hold Fundraising Yard Sale

Boy Scouts of AmericaCunningham, TN – On Saturday, May 5th, Scout Troop 546 is having a big fund raising Yard Sale at the Central Civitan Building 1/2 mile down Hwy 13 from the 13/48 split on the right. The sale starts at 7:00am.

There will be alittle bit of everything at the sale. Donations of items for the sale will also be taken. All proceeds goes towards the Philmont, New Mexico hiking trip this Summer.

Boy Scout Troop 546 sold Funnel Cakes at the 2011 Lone Oak Picnic to raise money to replace their stolen trailer. The trailer was stolen just three weeks prior to the picnic.

Clarksville, TN – Saturday, May 5th, the Friends of Dunbar Cave (FODC) are putting on their annual Spring Fling event. FODC is anticipating a good turnout and has planned lots of free activities for the whole family.

RiverView Mounds Summer Camp 2012 serves children from first grade through rising seventh graders with outdoor activities like gardening, hiking, animal care (including horse grooming!), scavenger hunts, nature art, fossil hunting, hay rides, zip lines and team sports. Added benefits are making new friends, great exercise and getting dirty without penalty! Campers play in groups with children of their own age.

Four sessions are available with free bus service to and from camp included. Your child can eat our nutritious lunch prepared in our certified commercial kitchen or can bring his own lunch. Port Royal State Park Announces New Interpretive Exhibits

Tennessee State ParksAdams, TN – Port Royal State Park today announced the installation of five new outdoor interpretive exhibits, designed to tell the story of the area’s history including information about the town of Port Royal and the Trail of Tears.

“As the first outdoor interpretative signage in the park, this is a great milestone toward our efforts to enhance visitors’ experiences in Port Royal State Park,” said Park Manager Allen Fenoseff. “These new exhibits will educate park visitors about the historic significance of Port Royal and the part this area played in shaping the state of Tennessee.”

Because Port Royal played such an important role in how travelers or settlers passed through Tennessee, transportation themes are prominently featured as part of the local community’s history. [Read more]

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area Nature Programs

Dunbar Cave will present many nature programs this summer. The schedule for the first week of June has programs on Trees, Wildflowers, Native Americans, Man’s Use of the Area, Birds, Turtles, Bats, Top Ten Hiking Essentials and Fuzzy Critters. Schedule of events below. Later programs planned will include Salamanders, Night Hikes, Sunset Hikes, Early Morning Hikes, Blowguns, nature crafts, Snakes, Bat Emergence, Dragonflies, Fishing, Bird Feeders, and many others.
