APSU introduces My Future to work with Degree Compass

Clarksville, TN – This week and next, students at Austin Peay State University are registering for their spring semester courses, and many of them are using the Degree Compass course recommendation tool to help them decide which courses to take.
Now, there is another computerized planning tool that works with Degree Compass. Called My Future, the new program suggests which majors are the best fit for each student’s academic talents. [Read more]
Clarksville Montgomery County School System receives $2.5 million DoDEA Grant for STEM

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System will receive a $2.5 million award under the 2012 Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) grant for enhancement of its Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs.
The grant, to be administered over three years, comes through DoDEA’s Military-Connected Local Educational Agencies for Academic and Support Programs (MCASP) Projects. [Read more]
APSU receives National Science Foundation grant to award scholarships for military and community college students in STEM disciplines

Clarksville, TN – Three Austin Peay State University professors are on the lookout for community college students, active duty military personnel, veterans and dependents interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in the science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) disciplines.
That’s because the National Science Foundation is awarding them more than $500,000 over the next five years to offer scholarships for qualified students in those areas.

Clarksville Montgomery County School System Teachers receive $20,000 Grant from Dow Corning Foundation

Clarksville, TN – The Dow Corning Foundation has approved a $20,000 grant to Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to fund the Teacher Extern Program, started this summer with 10 local industries, including Hemlock Semiconductor Group’s Clarksville site.
The program partners math and science teachers from CMCSS with engineers and industry professionals to better understand real life application of the subject they teach.

Mt Olive Historical Preservation Society and the Darden Foundation Partner to Advance Brandon Hill Youth Heritage Garden

Grant is one of nearly 900 to be awarded through the inaugural Darden Restaurant Community Grants Program
Clarksville, TN – Mt Olive Historical Preservation Society has received a $2000 grant as part of the inaugural Restaurant Community Grant Program from the Darden Foundation, the charitable arm of Darden Restaurants Inc.
The Restaurant Community Grant Program is a local grants program intended to help support nonprofit organizations in the hundreds of communities Darden and its restaurant brands serve. The donation will enable Mt Olive Society’s Brandon Hill Youth Heritage Garden program to reach scores of young people in the Montgomery County community.

APSU TRiO Tri-County Upward Bound receives $1.25 million federal grant over 5-year period

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University TRiO Tri-County Upward Bound (TCUB) has been awarded $1.25 million in federal grant funding over five years that will enable the program to provide academic enrichment and college enrollment services to low-income and potential first-generation high school students residing in Cheatham, Houston and Stewart counties. More than a year ago, APSU launched Degree Compass, a course recommendation system to help students stay on track toward graduation by. It was dubbed “the Netflix effect” because it provides students with personalized recommendations based on their academic transcript, similar to the way Netflix makes movie suggestions to customers. Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter receives grant for spay/neuter vouchers

Clarksville, TN – The Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter has received an anonymous $10,000 donation to provide spay-neuter vouchers to pet owners in the Clarksville-Montgomery county area.
The vouchers are available from the “Friends of the Shelter”, and will be available at “Doggie Palozza” this weekend at the Heritage Park Bark Park. The vouchers are $40.00 for cats, $50.00 for dogs, under 60 pounds.
There are no income restrictions and the vouchers are available to anyone in Montgomery County. The vouchers will be honored at St. Bethlehem Animal Clinic and will be valid for two weeks after purchase. [Read more]
