New Scholarship at APSU Honors Longtime Educator Patricia Hancock Richardson

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In the spring of 2010, two years into her battle with cancer, Patricia Hancock Richardson reminded her husband, James, of an errand he needed to run.

“She said, ‘make sure you get our basketball and football season tickets,’” James Richardson remembered. “ She told me, ‘We’re going to every game.’”

Patricia, known by her friends as Patty, had rooted for the Austin Peay State University Governors since the early 1950s, when she was a varsity cheerleader at the school. In the years that followed, she became a fixture at most home games, cheering on the Governors during good seasons and bad. So that spring, James listened to his wife and bought the tickets. Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – With Austin Peay State University’s football season just around the corner, the Athletics Department is now taking 2011 Tailgate Alley registration forms.

The Govs kick off the 2011 season with a pair of road games – September 3rd at Cincinnati and September 17th at Memphis – before the home schedule begins with a September 24th, Ohio Valley Conference game against Eastern Kentucky.

APSU in school supply contest against MTSU until September 10th

More than just football will be taking place September 11th.

Austin Peay State UniversityThe Governors will play Middle Tennessee State University that evening at MTSU’s Floyd Stadium, but between now and September 10th, the two schools are competing to see which one can collect the most donations of school supplies for their respective county schools.

The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro and The Leaf-Chronicle in Clarksville are sponsoring the inaugural Presidents Cup trophy to honor the school with the greater campus collection of school supplies leading up to the game. [Read more]

24th Annual Governors Golf Classic just 3 weeks away

Annual Governors Golf Classic The 24th Annual Governors Golf Classic is just three weeks away.

Sponsored by the Governors Club, the four-person men and women’s scramble will be limited to 60 teams, 30 per shotgun starts at noon, Friday, August 27th, and 8:00am, Saturday, August 28th, at Swan Lake Golf Course.

For a fourth straight year, men and women’s divisions are established. Cost is $400.00 per team, or $100.00 per person. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Austin Peay State University Athletics. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityThe 24th Annual Governors Golf Classic is set for Friday-Saturday, August 27th-28th, at Swan Lake Golf Course.

For a third straight year, the annual tournament will occur on succeeding days instead of the same day, with shotgun starts for each round.

Sponsored by the Governors Club, the four-person scramble will be limited to 60 teams, 30 per shotgun starts at noon, Friday, Aug. 27th, and 8:00am Saturday, Aug. 28th.

Austin Peay student-athletes continue classroom excellence

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University student-athletes posted a 2.915 grade-point average – their fifth consecutive semester with a GPA of 2.90 or better – during the recently completed Spring 2010 semester, director of athletics Dave Loos announced, Tuesday.

The department saw 159 student-athletes named to the Spring 2010 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing 54.6 percent of the department’s 291 student-athletes. Included in that tally are 29 student-athletes who were named to the President’s List – recording a perfect 4.0 GPA – and a record 83 student-athletes who were named to APSU’s Dean’s List, earning a 3.5 or better GPA.

“Our student-athletes continue to set one of the highest academics standards at our level,” said Loos. “Each year we challenge our student-athletes on the playing fields and in the classroom. Our teams and student-athletes continue to succeed athletically and academically.” [Read more]
