Clarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Mike Gotcher, chair of the APSU Department of Communication, Dr. Anna Filippo, assistant professor of communication, Tracy Nichols, communication instructor, and Dr. Melony Shemberger, assistant director of communication in the APSU Public Relations Office, judged various individual events and debate rounds at the Northeast High School Speech and Debate Tournament held February 4th at the school in Clarksville. Former Math Teacher Has All Of The Right Answers For Her New Real Estate Clients
Clarksville, TN – After 15 years spent helping her math students find all of the right answers, Clarksville Realtor Alison M. Cox is ready to help her buyers and sellers find the right solutions to all of their real estate needs.
Alison recently obtained her real estate license and joined Crye-Leike, REALTORS in its Clarksville, Sango branch office. She was previously a high school math teacher at Rossview High School for the last four years.
“My previous experience as a math teacher will benefit me in numerous ways as an affiliate broker,” said Alison. “There is no one more difficult to sell than a math student. Clarksville, TN – Plein air is a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, which literally means ‘in the open air’. In the late 1800s the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times of day on a subject, creating a new style of painting. Jason Saunders may be painting far from the French countryside, but his landscapes of Tennessee are just as breath-taking.

Washington, D.C. – Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5th, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30th. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.
The first large observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. [Read more]
APSU students join Appalachian Trail Club to relocate trails

Students and staff from Austin Peay State University spent their spring break in northern Georgia. working on the Appalachian Trail.
Although many students spend their spring break on vacation, nine students and two staff members from APSU traded their swimsuits for hardhats and chain saws. The group worked along side the Appalachian Trail Club to relocate a section of the trail that crossed the Justus Creek and was causing problems with erosion and pollution. This new section of the trail will open to the public in May 2009. [Read more]
