Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council announces Cal Wray as New Executive Director

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County, Tennessee Economic Development Council (EDC) Executive Board is excited to announce they have received commitment from Cal Wray, 35, of Dublin, GA, to assume the reins as the Executive Director.
The EDC was established in 1996, and currently promotes economic growth and development of Clarksville-Montgomery County.

Fort Campbell Welcomes Home the Last of the 4th Brigade Combat Team

Fort Campbell, KY – The never ending cycling of soldiers between the battlefield to the home front and vise versa continued Wednesday evening with the return of the final flight of 105 soldiers from the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Currahees) who returned up early Saturday morning.
This deployment was scheduled to be nine months, a good portion of our brigade about 2000 soldiers returned back at the 6-7 month mark. These soldiers returning today Easy Company of the 2nd/506th Infantry Regiment of the HBO Band of Brothers fame. They were contacting a TA Uplift Mission, or a Train, Assist, and Advise Uplift Mission. Easy company was selected because they finished their mission ahead of schedule out of FOB Salerno in the Khost Province of Afghanistan.” said Major Kamil Sztalkoper, 4th Brigade Combat Team Public Affairs

Go Commando Donates Over $50,000 To Charitable Organizations

Clarksville, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon & 5k, powered by CDE Lightband, announced Tuesday they would donate over $50,000 to local non-profits and community organizations.
The largest recipients, the Clarksville Area YMCA and the Fort Campbell Historical Foundation, were both on hand to accept donations of $15,000 each. Christy Batts, Broadband Division Manager for the Clarksville Department of Electricity, was also in attendance to present the checks to the recipients.

APSU creates military tuition assistance scholarship to help students impacted by Federal Government shutdown

Clarksville, TN – Last Friday, Austin Peay State University officials distributed an email to their active duty military students, letting them know plans were being put in place to keep them in school regardless of the temporary shutdown of Tuition Assistance (TA), a benefit provided by the military to cover tuition expenses incurred by active duty military pursuing college credit.
On Monday, after notification was sent stating the federal budget had not passed, APSU president Tim Hall initiated an effort to implement a scholarship to offset the shutdown of TA. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University to host workshop on working with veteran students and their children

Clarksville, TN – At 6:00pm on October 8th, local educators and community members who work with veterans are invited to attend a special workshop, “Stand In Their Boots: Beyond the Battlefield,” at the Austin Peay State University Morgan University Center.
The program will feature Rebecca Townsend, a senior licensed psychological examiner and licensed professional counselor, discussing ways university and public school teachers and staff members can better serve students who are veterans or the children of active duty service members.
