Chi Omega chapter donates painting to APSU in honor of 40 years on campus

Clarksville, TN – A new painting will soon hang in Harned Hall, on the Austin Peay State University campus. The artwork – a watercolor of the University’s quadrangle – was recently donated to the school by the artist, Lynne Waters Griffey, in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Sigma Kappa chapter of the Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity at APSU.
The print will hang with a plaque, acknowledging it as a gift from the chapter to the University.

Clarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University student Jorge Jiménez Cano first arrived in the United States, he only spoke a handful of basic English words, such as “hello” and “yes.” This proved to be a bit problematic on the days when he wasn’t feeling well.
“When I’d go to the doctor, I’d say ‘ouch here,’” he recalled, pointing to his throat to show the doctor where he felt pain. “It was intimidating.” [Read more]
Austin Peay State University’s Chi Omega Chapter Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Clarksville, TN – The Sigma Kappa chapter of Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity turns 40 this year. In May of 1972, the Sigma Tao Omega sorority was granted an official charter from Chi Omega, becoming the first national sorority on Austin Peay’s campus.
Since then, through the national organization, this Chi Omega chapter has raised nearly $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation and has donated thousands of volunteer hours to local charities and organizations.

April showers wash out second day of Rivers and Spires

Clarksville, TN – The second day of the Rivers and Spires Festival opened on Friday to good weather in spite of rains earlier in the day.
Sadly, the good weather only lasted for half an hour when the first of three lines of rain showers moved through the area. To escape the rain, crowds huddled under whatever dry spaces were available including under the awnings at First Baptist Church, and various business entrances along the streets, and the Roxy Regional Theatre on Franklin Street.

Kiwanis Club’s Annual Pancake Day

Clarksville, TN – The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville is holding it’s John D. Maddox, Sr. Annual Memorial Pancake Day Saturday, February 26th, 2011. The event will be from 7:00am to 11:00am at the First Baptist Church located at 435 Madison Street.
Tickets are $5.00 per person.
Clarksville Kiwanis Clubs gives the gift of Christmas to area children

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Kiwanis Clubs gathered together on December 7th 2010 to bring the joy of Christmas into the hearts of 216 children from the Headstart program and various area child care centers. The annual Children’s Christmas Party is a partnership between the Hilldale and Downtown Kiwanis Clubs, and was organized and chaired by Andrew Hale, and Matt Dyce.
It all kicked off on Monday when roughly 50 people gathered at First Baptist Church to wrap over $7,000 in toys purchased from area Walmarts. The Walmart Corporation gave the Kiwanis Club a generous discount as a donation to the program. The Toy’s included Disney Princess Dolls, Hasbro’s Littlest Petshop dolls, children’s books, Nerf Weather Blitz All-Conditions Footballs, Fisher-Price Dora the Explorer Mega Tunes Guitars, winter hats and gloves, Tonka Lights & Sound – Rescue Force trucks and helicopters, and Road rippers – Street Screamers cars.

3rd Annual Taste of Holiday

Clarksville, TN – A & S All Support presents the 3rd Annual Taste of Holiday Event on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at First Baptist Church. This event attracted numerous vendors and more than 300 participants last year.
This year we expect an even larger turnout. The cause validates the expectation and the community support that this event produces. All proceeds from the event benefits supportive employment by placement, training and job coaching for individuals with disabilities.
Taste of Holiday features food & beverage samples from some of the finest restaurants, bakeries and caterers in and around the local area. This event is intended for participants to explore options in planning their own holiday events, taste from multiple vendors in one venue, or just have an evening of fun and tasty indulgence while supporting a worthwhile cause. New Lasaters Coffee Shop opens at Willowchase Shopping Center

Rick and Allison Malone are new business owners. They are the newest franchisees of Clarksville based Lasaters Coffee & Tea. Their store is located in the Willowchase Shopping Center (894 Hwy 76, Suite 101). They opened their doors on April first, and in what was likely taken by some as a savvy businesses April’s fools day joke, offered free drinks to anyone who stopped by the store by that day.
They came to Clarksville through the military. Rick was serving with the 160th Nightstalkers out at the Fort Campbell Army base, and Allison enrolled in the Austin Peay State University’s School of Nursing.
Allison said “We fell in love with Clarksville, Tennessee.” When asked what specifically about Clarksville she loved the most, she identified the diversity of this community. “You have the feel of a big city, but the people are more friendly, They made us fall in love with Clarksville.” she said, “In this city it seems as if everyone knows each other. Everyone has heard of the six degrees of separation theory, but in Clarksville it’s really just three.”
South Korean Choir honors Korean War vets

Levite Choir from South Korea will present a “Praise Concert” at First Baptist Church (Faith Worship Center) on Madison St. in Clarksville, on February 12 at 7:00 p.m.
The Choir performance was designed to thank Korean War Veterans and the brave Americans who came to evangelize to the Koreans and fight for freedom.
The Levite Choir from South Korea is traveling from coast to coast to offer appreciation in song and praise to all. Americans who came to Korea to preach the gospel and to fight for the freedom of the Korean Peninsula. We are inviting all the veterans (Retired and Active duty) who serving oversea in Korea to come and join us in a time to honor America’s best. [Read more]
