Clarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host its first-ever book signing Saturday, February 18th from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Carolyn Stier Ferrell will be available to sign copies of her most recent book, “Occupied: The Story of Clarksville, Tennessee During the Civil War.”
Civil War Events and Programs are Planned for the Local Community

Clarksville-Montgomery County to Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Town’s Surrender to Union Naval Forces

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville Montgomery County Civil War Sesquicentennial or CW150 Commission is preparing for the 150th anniversary of the “Surrender of Clarksville.”
To commemorate this historic event, the CW150 Commission will host a ceremony marking the date on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at 2:00pm at Fort Defiance Civil War Park.
Civil War Living History Encampment to be held at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission invites the public to join us at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, Saturday, October 22nd from 10:00am to 5:00pm, to experience the sights and sounds of a Civil War campsite and battlefield.
All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Visitors can explore the Center, which features several multi-media interpretive exhibits, observe living history stations located around the fort and watch as cannons are fired periodically. Don’t miss the chance to learn about the fascinating chain of events that unfolded on this very site during the Civil War and Reconstruction.

Clarksville, TN –Senior adults ages 50 and up can register now until May 2nd for the 2011 Clarksville Senior Olympics. This year’s events will be May 4th-7th at various locations around Clarksville, including The Swan Lake Sports Complex and Golf Course, Kleeman Community Center, The Pinnacle Bowling Center, and Burt-Cobb Community Center.
Seniors will face off for bragging rights, as well as medals in more than 20 challenging events, which include shuffleboard, tennis, track, golf, bowling, basketball free throw, pickle ball and billiards. Because we now have the Indoor Aquatic Center, swimming events have been added. [Read more]

Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center to Open April 9th

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville is excited to unveil its newest addition, the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center. The park and related facilities, located at 120 Duncan Street, will open to the public on April 9th with activities planned the entire weekend in celebration of the Grand Opening.
