Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of achievements as part of their professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Dixie Dennis, associate provost for grants and dean of the College of Graduate Studies, recently contributed three chapters to the new scholarly book, “The A-Z of Death and Dying: Social, Medical, and Cultural Aspects,” edited by Michael Brennan. Dennis wrote the chapters, “Definition of Death,” “Funerals” and “Near-Death Experiences.” [Read more]

The common reading assignment for the Fall 2013 semester is “Saints at the River” by Ron Rash, who will speak at 7:00pm, Thursday, September 26th in the Dunn Center at APSU. The talk is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow his talk.

New APSU students, community encouraged to read ‘Saints at the River’

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – This summer, Austin Peay State University will welcome new students who will register for classes and pick up one of their books that will serve as the common reading assignment for Fall 2013 semester.

The new book is “Saints at the River” by Ron Rash, and the community also is invited to read the book and participate in the campus events and book discussions beginning in September. New student orientation and registration will begin May 18th and continue throughout the summer. [Read more]

The SRFP awards up to $5,000 for selected proposals by tenured or tenure-track faculty to develop a research or creative activity project that should place them in a better position to seek external funding.

APSU graduate student to showcase work in Nashville

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University graduate student will showcase her work at the Legislative Plaza in Nashville, TN as part of the annual Graduate Education Week in Tennessee, April 1st-7th.

Veronica Mullen will present research, titled “Population demographics and site-fidelity among cave-dwelling bats of Dunbar Cave, Montgomery County, Tennessee,” which was co-authored by Dr. Andrew Barrass, associate professor in the APSU Center of Excellence for Field Biology at APSU.

Wes Moore, Author of best-selling book “The Other Wes Moore” to be at APSU on September 27th

Both grew up fatherless in similar Baltimore neighborhoods and had difficult childhoods; both hung out on street corners with their crews; both ran into trouble with the police.

How, then, did one grow up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other ended up a convicted murderer serving a life sentence?

APSU Employees note their various accomplishments

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Dixie Dennis, associate provost of Grants and Sponsored Programs and dean of the College of Graduate Studies, co-authored an article, titled “The impact of organizational leadership ethical conduct on hospital employees’ job satisfaction: A correlational study in Kuwait,” that was published in the most recent International Journal of Business, Humanities and Technology.

Mark Gray, advising coordinator for the College of Science and Mathematics, and Kacie Hutson, advising coordinator at the Center for Teaching and Learning, presented twice at the National Academic Advisors Association Region 3 Conference on April 13th in Charlotte, NC.

A concurrent presentation, titled “Incorporating Academic Coaching and Guided Study Sessions: Creating a comprehensive academic success program,” focused on the data compiled from the Promoting Academic Student Success Program pilot study.

Additionally, both Gray and Hutson presented a poster on the Advising Liaison Program for new at-risk students. They will be presenting the poster at the NACADA Annual Conference in October in Nashville.

Dr. Stephen Truhon, associate professor of psychology, has been appointed as a fellow in the 2012 Office of Naval Research-American Society Engineering Education Summer Faculty Research Program. During this 10-week program, he will conduct research with other researchers at Naval Personnel Research Studies and Technology in Millington, Tennessee.
