Nashville State Community College to plant satellite Campus in Clarksville

School plans expansion to former Saturn dealership

Nashville State Community College Clarksville, TN – Members of the Montgomery County delegation and area education leaders announced plans Wednesday for a Nashville State Community College satellite campus in Clarksville.

“One of the best ways we can increase job opportunities in our community is through increased access to higher education,” said State Representative Joe Pitts. “Nashville State will add another lane to the higher education bridge in Clarksville and Montgomery County.”

On Monday, the Executive Subcommittee of the State Building Commission approved the first step for Nashville State to obtain the former Saturn dealership on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard, which occupies nearly 18 acres in North Clarksville. State and local officials have been working for years on a deal to bring Nashville State to the city. [Read more]

Local Hershey Track and Field Winners Excel at State Competition

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The State Hershey Track and Field Competition was held June 25th in Murfreesboro, and two local competitors won in their respective events. Melanie Stevens placed first in both the 400- and 800-meter races, while Bethany Rich placed first in the standing long jump.

The first- and second-place athletes in the local competition, held May 14th at Kenwood High School, advanced to the District Hershey Track and Field Competition in Dickson where they advanced to the State Competition in Murfreesboro. Hershey Track and Field gives young athletes a chance to showcase their skills in track and field, long jump and softball throw.

APSU College of Business forms new advisory board

Thanks to the formation of the APSU College of Business Advisory Board, members of the new entity – themselves business and community members in Clarksville and Nashville – will help to develop the college’s faculty, offer or suggest internships to students, provide input on curriculum design, establish scholarships and other financial support, serve as guest speakers and assist in other ways. Hershey Track and FieldClarksville, TN – The annual local Hershey Track and Field Competition was held May 14th at Kenwood High School. The competition gives young athletes a chance to showcase their skills in track and field, long jump and softball throw.

Award-winning Ying Quartet Brings Music to Clarksville

Acuff Chair of ExcellenceClarksville, TN – In the early 1990s, four highly trained classical musicians moved to a small farming town in Iowa and set up shop as the community’s resident quartet. The Ying Quartet, as the group was known, received a National Endowment for the Arts grant for the groundbreaking experiment of integrating music and creative activities into the everyday life of the town of Jesup.

Residents heard the group perform haunting and powerful classical works at schools, churches, banks and inside their own homes. They viewed the arts differently after those two years, and the experiment went on to become a model for future NEA projects.
