APSU staff members honored for continuous service, retirement or education

Clarksville, TN – Several employees at Austin Peay State University were recognized Friday, July 22nd for their continuous years of service. A reception was held in the Morgan University Center ballroom to honor those employees.
Donna Liverett, administrative assistant in the APSU Department of Chemistry, was honored for her 40 years of service to APSU.
Employees with 25 years are Clifford Frederick, Cheryl Garrett, David Gleckler, Denise Hemingway, Michele Jones, Betty Leimer and Julia McGee.
Unity Day

Clarksville, TN – Come out tonight and celebrate Unity Day with the Clarksville Area Churches at 1st Assembly of God Church on June 4th 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.
Austin Peay State University athletics director and basketball coach Dave Loos, along with Maj. General John F. Campbell, the commanding general at Fort Campbell, and Pastor Wess Morgan, a contemporary recording artist, will receive the prestigious awards during the event along with several local pastors and non-profit organizations each of whom who strive to positively impact the Clarksville community.
Hosts Yolanda Stewart and Kevin Kennedy will return as the hosts for the 2011 Celebration of Unity Day that will be held at 1st Assembly of God Church located at 1186 Fort Campbell Blvd.

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce its keynote speaker for the first-ever Clarksville Sports Festival Coach’s Legends Award Banquet – Austin Peay State University Coach Dave Loos.
The banquet, which will be held at 6:30pm, March 25th at the William O. Beach Civic Hall in Veterans Plaza, will honor both current and past coaches who are or have made a unique difference and solid contribution to sports and athletics in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area. [Read more]
Austin Peay student-athletes continue classroom excellence

Austin Peay State University student-athletes posted a 2.915 grade-point average – their fifth consecutive semester with a GPA of 2.90 or better – during the recently completed Spring 2010 semester, director of athletics Dave Loos announced, Tuesday.
The department saw 159 student-athletes named to the Spring 2010 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing 54.6 percent of the department’s 291 student-athletes. Included in that tally are 29 student-athletes who were named to the President’s List – recording a perfect 4.0 GPA – and a record 83 student-athletes who were named to APSU’s Dean’s List, earning a 3.5 or better GPA.
“Our student-athletes continue to set one of the highest academics standards at our level,” said Loos. “Each year we challenge our student-athletes on the playing fields and in the classroom. Our teams and student-athletes continue to succeed athletically and academically.” [Read more]
Nine Austin Peay teams post best-ever APR marks

Austin Peay State University’s athletics department received its full Academic Progress Rate (APR) report from the National Collegiate Athletics Association, Wednesday. Nine of the department’s 15 athletic programs posted best-ever marks in multi-year APR.
Each academic year, each athletics team calculates its APR for the year, based on the eligibility, retention and graduation of each scholarship student-athlete. The APR was developed by the NCAA as a more real-time assessment of teams’ academic performances than the six-year graduation-rate calculation provides, the APR awards two points each term to student-athletes who meet academic-eligibility standards (one point) and who remain with the institution (one point). A team’s APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible. [Read more]
Sam Lashlee and Jeff Davis wins 16th APSU Governors Bass Tournament

PARIS LANDING—The team of Sam Lashlee and Jeff Davis literally cast aside the rest of the field as they captured the first-place prize of $4,000 in the 16th annual Governors Bass Tournament, Sunday.
Lashlee, of Camden, and Davis, of Waverly, came away with a catch of 29.12 pounds to easily outdistance Scott Mansfield, who hauled in 22.42 to take second place and $1,500.
